Am I the only one who suffers from dull but debilitating headaches whenever my gut is acting up or out or whatever it's doing, headaches invariably accompanied by fatigue? Just wondering. The headaches and chronic tiredness are usually worse than the pain and bloating and nightmare flatulence.

Just browsing to see what this group is all about. I have been diagnosed as having IBS. I do have a lot of stressful events going on in my life and am fearful to leave the house due to my condition. I could use some help.

Title: Herbal relief for some symptoms

Member ID: SMI65

I am a 70 year old male. My symptoms started about 14 months ago during a period of severe stress. Quckly discovered I had a major alllergy to milk and milk products. This is a true allergy and not just lactose intolerance. I have found that two herbs help me enormously. One is Slippery Elm--two caps with each meal--and the others are plant derived digestive enzymes such as papain and bromelain. These reduce gas and general discomfort for me. Since the stress has abated, my symptoms are also abating. I am hopeful they might even disappear.

Over the past 3 months I have limited my caffene intake to 1 glass per day in the afternoon and no carbonated beverages after dinner, I have also been exercising my abdominals (I invested in the AB Roller) and I feel better now than I have felt in the past 3 years.

If you can tolerate it I would suggest a fiber like psyllium(Metamucil) or citrocell. However these may not be tolerated well. Slippery elm herb caps may also help taken together with the herb licorice root which also comes in caps

I have found a very derfinite connection between food allergies and IBS. In fact, my condition started with an allergy to milk protein (that includes all dairy). When I gave i up dairy things got better. There is a lot of hidden milk protein in foods so it can be things other than what is obviously dairy. I was tested for a full range of food allergies. I am also allergic to chocolate, shell fish and nuts. All of thse I avoid with good results.

My mother (67) was recently diagnosed w/UC. Any recomendations for docs or hospitals in the Phila, PA and/or Sarasota, area? She's being hit very hard by this and the docs seem a bit non-chalant. Thanks!

My daughter has been told that she may have irritable bowel syndrome. The doctor has done extensive tests and has told me to treat her with Metamucil over the next two weeks to see if this alleviates some of her symptoms. How can I know for sure if this indeed is her diagnosis and how best to treat it?

Had Gall Bladder surgery last year and it brought on IBS symptoms with a vengance. Something I thought I was rid of 30 years ago. I find Metamucil, chamomile, and ginger root capsules all helpful, but not a complete answer. Does anyone out there know where in the USA Peppermint oil can be purchsed? I can't find it anywhere.

A dietary supplement that I have been taking could help IBS. It's rich in micro organisms that seem to be lacking in our foods today with pesticides, preservatives, herbicides, etc. Perhaps their is some micro organisms that are suppose to be in our food and they are killed along the way. If you could replace them, then that might help people who suffer from IBS. Allen B. Graves digigrfx@esinet.net

Something I have found that really helps keep me "regular" and prevents too many upsets is an herbal product put out by Enrich Distributors. It's their Classic Natural Tea and I try to drink one cup of tea each night.

What prescription medications are recommended to treat the gas associated with IBS? I've tried Simethecone (over-the-counter) without relief. If you've experienced success with something, I'll pass the recommendation along to my doctor. Thanks. Joe Ross (j1ross@or.blm.gov)

A doctor Weil, who can be found at Hotwire.com/drweil seems very confident that taking enteric-coated capsules of peppermint oil can correct IBS. Trouble is that the caps. are not available in the good old USA. Do you know if this is true or not? MY email is Chewee@pacificnet.net
