After having a normal colonoscopy I developed a distended abdomen. I called the colo-rectal surgeon's office and to my surprise he got on the line. He asked me to come in, he examined me and said everything was normal.
When I got dressed he sat me down and told me my prolapse was 2-3". I have a redundant, meaning extra loop, and a dilated, colon. The dilated colon is due from inflammation. The redundant colon he could operate on while he fixed the prolapse. What he said next shocked me!
He drew me a picture of the procedure and said my best bet was to have a permanent colostomy bag. The prolapse would never completely go away, he said, and to save me from having multiple operations, I may as well get used to the idea of wearing a bag for the rest of my life
I I have three weeks to make a decision that could alter my life.
