I had an upper and lower GI done on Friday, 5/25/12. My colon looks good, I have mild GERD detected in the upper (explains the random heartburn) and I meet with the GI NP on Friday to go over the results of the endo biopsies and all the blood work. The GI who did the procedure told me that he believes I have IBS. He recommended the FODMAP diet.
I started the diet on Saturday- really tightened it up on Sunday. Monday I felt pretty good, all day Tuesday I felt GREAT until sometime around suppertime and then it all went downhill. I had bad lower stomach cramping and while I had very loose stool I felt constipated. I was miserable. I finally drank some Smooth Move tea before bed (after going to the gym hoping to losen everything up).
This morning I felt terrible- had multiple diahrrea episodes. It is now 10:30am and I still don't feel great. Just went to the bathroom again (this makes 4 times) and am back in my office thinking I should go again,my stomach is very gurgly and upset.
I did not feel like eating this morning, but knew I had to in order to prevent a migraine so I ate a bowl of oatmeal on my way in to work and when I got here I had a hard boiled egg and a 1/2 a grapefruit. Very light and all I felt I could handle. NOrmally I am very hungry by now but not today. I will likely get a migraine because I do if I don't eat about 3 hours after breakfast, but I just can't imagine eating anything.
Breakfast:
7am- bowl of Oat Fit with 2 TBSP added quick oats, 1/4 cup of Almond Milk
8:30am- 1 hardboiled egg, 1/2 grapefruit
Snack:
10:50am handful almonds/cashews and 1/2 cup blueberries
Lunch:
12:30pm- 2 slices Udi's white gluten free bread, toasted. 1 TBSP mayo, 2 slices deli turkey, 2 slices (about 2.5 oz) cheddar cheese
** feeling decent right now. Not terribly hungry but enough, stomach not hurting haven't gone to the bathroom since 10:30
12:45-1:20p Walk outside- stomach feeling OK right now.
2:45p- just turned down chocolate cake. Am very very hungry right now. Really not sure what to have... my fat intake has been so high today, all I have are hard boiled eggs, sliced cheese, turkey slices, Udi's bread and peanut butter. Toast with PB sounds good... but again, adding to the fat total.
3pm- 2 slices Udi's with 2 tsp PB- still feeling good
5pm- not feeling as good as before, not terrible. Had a very lose BM around 5:40 and felt a little better, but don't feel like I am done. Somewhat bloated and gurgly.
6pm- bowl of cornflakes, banana and about 3/4 cup almond milk. hardboiled egg. Not feeling terrible, but not as good as before.
8pm- really hungry. piece of string cheese, 1/2 serving of Blue Diamond baked nut chips, 1 kiwi. stomach feels pretty good right now.
So far today: 1813 calories
Carbs: 43%
Fat: 43%
Protein: 14
Not super happy with those numbers at all- way too high in fat and low in protein.... but I'm still trying to figure out this FODMAP diet thing so hopefully that will get better. I get migraines if I don't eat enough or frequently enough and so I tend to just make sure I can eat to prevent migraines (and now this evil tummy, too).
Alright- that's it for now. I am going to meet a few friends out to discuss logistics of getting our boys to hockey camp this summer (who's dropping off, who's picking up, etc). I'm trying to decide if I should have a beer or not. The elimination diet I am doing from the IBS Free at last book says one 12 oz beer is allowed..... hmmmmm
