My Story

Hi Everyone,

Hoping that anyone can help i decided to write this blog.
I was diagnosed with IBS 8 years ago, but to be honest i have never noticed any significant symptoms until a year ago.
I started having servere diarrhea with stomach cramps, feeling really hot and feeling really nauseous so the doctor gave me tablets to stop the diarrhea. The problem was that they worked too well and i couldnt go to the toilet for 2 weeks, not surprising i ended up in hospital with servere pains, so they gave me some laxatives to help. Over the next 2 months i had countless blood and unrine test as well as scans and xrays saw countless doctors nurses and surgeons and in the end they decided i had a kidney infection but they still wanted me to have a Colonoscopy.
So March this year i had the colonoscopy and they didnt find anything, and at this point my symptoms had subsided.
Now i have started again with the same symptoms and a different doctor from last year has said that my IBS has flared up due to stress and that i need to relax, drink herbal tea and try a get more fibre into my diet. He also gave me Mebeverine tablets that i have to take 3 times a day which i have been on now for over a week and nothing has really changed.
Has anyone got any ideas that will help with the nausea and the pains?

Hello Gemstone
I suffer nausea and severe pains on a daily basis. It is trial and error sometimes to see what helps or to ease symptoms. My GP has prescribed anti-nausea tablets in the past but i could not carry on taking them due to side effects.Maybe you could try taking peppermint tea or ginger capsules some people say they are of help and even sucking on a mint.As for the pain there are anti-spasmodics you could try or low dose antidepressants can sometimes help pain.

There is a diet if you have problems with diarrhea, it is called the BRAT diet B-bread, R-rice, A-apple sauce, T-tea. I use it when I have problems getting the guts under control

I too suffered from very similar symptoms the past three months. My nausea and cramping was debilitating and went on for 3 months. I went to countless doctors and they diagnosed me with IBS. However, I refused to accept that it was IBS, as I knew it was something else. I continued on my journey going from doctor to doctor and FINALLY found one that took me under his wing. I lost 14 lbs and only weighed 120lbs to begin with. I had all of the tests that you had done: blood, stool, colonoscopy, endoscope and CT scans. ALL of which came back negative, except for one stool test. I did not have enough flora in my stomach, which is considered good bacteria. The bad bacteria took over, causing the cramping and diarrhea. I started on Align and was SO skeptical, as I didn't believe that a little probiotic could help me. Well, it was a miracle worker. I HIGHLY suggest trying it. It does make your symptoms flare up a bit at the beginning, but give it 2 weeks and you will feel like a new person. The other problem my doctor found, which he said MANY doctors misdiagnose IBS for, is gastroparesis. My stomach was not emptying the food into my intestines. It is considered a paralyzed stomach, which causes intense nausea and the feeling of fullness. In order to get diagnosed with this problem, you eat an egg sandwich with radioactive material mixed in. Every 12 minutes, for 2 hours they take X-rays of your stomach and at the end of the 2 hours see how much your stomach empties. The normal range of fullness is to have 36-62% of the food left in there after 2 hours...mine was 92% full. There is a medicine to strengthen the muscle in your stomach to push the food down. Check it out! I hope this might give you some hope. Don't give up, after this ordeal I truly believe that there IS an underlying issue to many people who are misdiagnosed with IBS.
