Recently Diagnosed with IBS

This is the very first time using this kind of tool and I am a little scared at putting my info out there. I am a frustrated, anxious and overwhelmed at this diagnosis. There is so much info on IBS and I am quickly finding out no set rules to follow as everyone is different in their symptoms.
I just need the comfort right now of other people who have this as it is so hard to explain to my loved ones so they understand.
I would appreciate any advice or encouragement if anyone can find the time.
Thanks so much.
Lisa

I have had IBS for many years & it seems to get worse as I get older. I find sometimes there are trigger foods, and alcohol can really mess you up. but I started taking Align & its helping. I may go to every other day on the Align as sometimes I find myself constipated for 3 days. What I have learned is if I have to go somewhere I eat light for a couple days & it seems to help. Stress also makes my IBS flare up.

I know so many people with IBS, and you are correct in that there are no rules. From what I am reading, most of the basic symptoms are similar, but you will find some with different symptoms. What I find is that one day varies to the next, so you may have a great day, and then a not so great day. However, knowing that is what it is, should help you not to worry as much, which seems to help some. Worry can make it worse...sort of the mind/colon thing. Our minds have such an amazing way of tapping into our digestive tract. I think that knowing what it is empowers you to learn more about what works and what doesn't. Journaling is good. Also, DRINK LOTS OF WATER! Take care!

you def have to get to know your body. a lot of people keep some sort of food diary to help them figure out which foods their body can handle and which are triggers.
it is difficult to explain ibs to non ibsers. theres a really good brochure on the home page on this site thats meant for that. (i would put the link here, except i never quite figured out how to do that!)
good luck!

Hi I actually have Crohn's Disease I was diagnosed 5 yrs ago and I am 34 yrs old. It is hard living with this disease, when I go out to eat i am scared to eat cause I know I will be in the bathroom before I finish my meal and will have to stop several times on the way home too. When I was first diagnosed it was hard for me and hard to make peope understand what I am going thru. Since then everyone has seem to be more understanding and I have a wonderful understanding fiance that really gives me support. I am having problems finding a gastroenterologist that I like. The one that diagnosed me with Crohn's disease retired. I went to another new one today but didn't care for him either. It doesn't get easier, but you figure out how to make the adjustments in your life to deal with it. Give people time they will be more understanding in the future. Just hang in there!!!!!!!!!
