Note:

AMITIZAŽ is the only prescription medicine approved by the FDA to treat adults with IBS-C and Chronic Idiopathic Constipation in women 18 years of age and older. "Idiopathic" simply means the cause of the constipation is not known and not due to an underlying illness or medication.

AMITIZA is not for everyone. If you know you have a bowel obstruction, do not take AMITIZA.

ZELNORM is no longer approved for IBS-C or chronic constipation. In the U.S. access may be available under a special FDA emergency program. More information on this protocol can be found here.

I did it! LOL!
I took my first pill on Sunday. I only took 1/2 a pill in the morning. It gave me diarhea twice in the morning after breakfast. The funny thing is as scared as I was- I felt relief! Even though it caused the diarhea, I felt fine all day and didn't feel like I was going to have a million tiny bowel movements all day, like I usually do! Monday and today I took only 1/4 of a pill- to see if I could get by without the diarhea, but it really didn't do anything. I think I will just continue to take 1/2 a pill and see how that goes.
Thank you for all of your support while I got myself through this! http://ibsgroup.org/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok.. I don't understand this Zelnorm!
After the first dose of 1/2 a pill, and the diarhea..the next 2 days I took 1/4 of a pill. Nothing happened. I was back to where I started from. Now today I took 1/2 a pill again, and still nothing. Just very bubbly and gassy, and back to my normal problems. I guess I should just try a whole pill and see what happens. I don't know why I would get the diarhea on the first day with only 1/2 a pill, and then back to square one the rest of the week!
Is the Zelnorm that unpredictable? I still haven't filled my prescription- just taking samples in case it doesn't work for me!

Yes it can be unpredictable especially at first. That's the way it was for me anyway. I would try to stick it out for a month and maybe go up to a whole tablet. My dr always tells me that I should take it 2x day---that's the way it's 'supposed' to work best but for me it did nothing more that way. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Today I took a whole pill and after breakfast it "worked"! LOL! It wasn't diarhea, but close enough! I can't imagine taking it twice a day! I was so nervous running my errands this morning, not knowing if it was going to strike again! Isn't IBS just wonderful? http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/graemlins/dizzy.gif
