I WAS WRITING THIS AWHILE AGO AND DECIDED TO PRINT IT FIRST, BUT ALL I GOT WAS THE LAST PAGE. I WILL SHORTEN THIS TO SAY I WONDER HOW LONG YOU CAN HAVE TROUBLE FROM TAKING ANTIBIOTICS. MY TROUBLE STARTED IN EARLY 1996 AFTER TAKING DOXYCYCLINE. SURELY THAT IS NOT WHAT IS STILL GIVING ME TROUBLE.
I UNDERSTAND ANTIBIOTICS KILL ALL BACTERIA IN YOUR SYSTEM (GOOD AND BAD) AND YEAST TAKES ITS PLACE. I AM NOW TAKING ACIDOPHILUS, LIBRAX AND IMODIUM AD. THANKS JEFF FOR THIS BB!

My trouble started in 1996 after taking Antibiotics also. Before that I now know I had mild IBS but really didn't worry about it, didn't even know what IBS was. So yes antibiotics can cause IBS I'm sure. I don't know why, I don't think anyone does. by the way almost everybody has Yeast but its kept under control by bacteria and normal immune function. My advice is not to waste too much time worring about yeast overgrowth unless you can actually see it, ( thrush ). Try working on diet, or maybe calcium, there are alot of ideas at this web site.

Blair, thanks so much for your reply. WHAT MEDICATIONS ARE YOU CURRENTLY ON? WHAT HAS DONE YOU THE MOST GOOD? DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW IF,WHEN OR HOW YOUR GOOD BACTERIA IS RESTORED? IF MINE IS OK NOW, WHY AM I STILL HAVING PROBLEMS? I'M AFRAID THIS HAS TAKEN COMPLETE CONTROL OF MY LIFE. I NEVER WANT TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE ANYMORE. MY POOR (SWEET) HUBBY DOES ALL OF OUR ERRANDS, GROCERY SHOPPING, ETC. SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE SURELY WILL FIND AN ANSWER TO THIS. THANKS AGAIN.

BETTIE Relax I also get worse when i take antibotics . I have to take them for the detist. You can tell when the bateria is right when your gas doesn`t stink any more. Don`t eat for a day and just drink liquids. Then eat smaller volume meals. This won`t likely cure you but your feel like living again. Liberty

Liberty, thanks for your reply. FROM WHAT YOU SAID, MY BACTERIA MUST BE ALRIGHT. I STILL AM NOT READY TO JOIN THE "REAL" WORLD AGAIN. I DON'T EAT AS MUCH AS I DID BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE APPETITE I ONCE HAD. WHEN I DO EAT, I SEEM TO WANT SOFT FOODS--OK, SOMETIMES I CRAVE THE VERY THINGS I SHOULD STAY FROM, SUCH AS HOT, SPICY FOODS--WHICH REALLY SEEM TO DO ME IN. I REALLY MISS MILK--I HAVE TRIED A PRODUCT CALLED "BETTER THAN MILK" AVAILABLE AT HEALTH FOOD STORES, WHICH I THOUGHT HELPED, BUT IT'S STILL NOT THE REAL THING. THANKS AGAIN.

Hi Bettie. I'm on Librax and sometimes Amodium or Pepto-Bismol. I have found a wide varity of foods worsen my symtoms. I found this by recording everything I eat. I have been doing this for 3 years now and can really see a pattern. Old diet 5/16/97 Oatmeal, matzo crackers, chedder cheese, carrot juice, ginger ale, halibit fish sticks, rice, ice cream, crackers.
New diet 1/4/99 Coffee w/ rice milk, rice cearel w/ banana, potato toaster, green tea, corn chips, chicken, green beans, turkey, mashed potatos, corn tortillas, aloe vera juice, apple.
Its a pain but as you can see my diet is very different now and if I eat what I used to eat I'd be a wreck. I've tried Acidopillus but for me it didn't do much. Good luck.

Blair, THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE. I SINCERELY AM SORRY ANYONE HAS THESE HEALTH PROBLEMS, BUT IT SURELY IS NICE TO HAVE PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH. I ALSO HAVE BEEN KEEPING A RECORD OF FOODS I EAT. THE FUNNY THING ABOUT IT IS SOMETIMES I CAN EAT SOMETHING AND NOT HAVE IT BOTHER ME--OTHER TIMES THE SAME THING CAN GIVE ME THE WHOLE RANGE OF SYMPTOMS. THANK GOODNESS I RARELY HAVE THE UNBEARABLE PAIN THAT I STARTED OUT WITH IN EARLY 1996. THEY WERE LIKE LABOR PAINS. IF I COULD HAVE THEN HAD A SWEET LITTLE BABY TO SHOW FOR THEM, THAT WOULD HAVE MADE IT ALL WORTHWHILE--AND THEN OF COURSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER.
BEST FOR YOU AND ALL THE OTHERS ON THIS BB FOR THE NEW YEAR. BETTIE
