I have been in a severe flare up since 4/22/09. Diarreha,cramping,nausea,weight loss and multiple trips to hospital, ER and doctors. Can anyone share their experience as to how long a flare up this bad can last?

There is no set time for IBS to have a worse time. I can't give you a prediction as when it will be over. I wish I could, but IBS can be severe from few hours to a few years and there isn't a good way to know when it will end until it eases up.However worrying that it will never end seems to increase the anxiety and depression that can make it worse and last longer than it otherwise would. Keeping upbeat that it will get better soon isn't always easy, unfortunately.

I have had my latest flare up of IBS-D since january this year, i am also suffering with anxiety, which makes it worse, Ive had the tests, I know what its like, this is the longest in the 9 years of having IBS-D that this has last, I wish i knew when mine would settle down, if its going to.

Have you missed a lot of work? How do you get to where you just get through the day? I just want my old IBS back !!!!!!!!
