I was diagnosed with IBS nearly 3 years ago and since then have not been able to hold down a job. I've tried different patterns of work, and have found that i'm better with a straight 9-5 with regular breaks, i've tried to be as honest as I can about my IBS but i still keep losing time from work that I get sacked. My last few jobs have all been through agencies, not my choice but financially, I need to work so take whatever is available. I started a data entry job a month ago, I was fine for the first 3 weeks then my IBS kicked in, I then got a gut infection which then made my IBS worse, I went into work monday, as I was worried about my job, then the next morning I was having abdominal pains and bowel pains along with all the toilet business that I have to endure. My partner called in sick for me, hours later my agency called and told me that I'd been sacked due to my time off. I have gone through about 6 jobs this year. All my employers have know I suffer with IBS but obviously they need someone that is reliable which I'm not. I swear my friends think I'm a hypochondriac. I sometime have to cancel dinner plans, I don't drink anymore but because I keep losing my jobs I can't afford a social life. How do people do it? I take colofac and this occaisionally helps but I can't rely on it. I just don't know what to do, I can't live life, I can't work, I can't not work. If I start a permanent job, I fail the probationary period due to time off sick so my contract is terminated, if its agency work i get sacked pretty much straight away whilst I'm off ill in pain which then makes the IBS worse. I need to claim a life back but just have no idea how to do it. Ideas anyone?

What is your worst symptom?

If I have to go work or somewhere that makes me to get nervous, I usually go to the bathroom as many times as I can before I leave home... Fortunately, I can go to the bathroom at work, still it's embarrassing when you have to go this many times...My dream is working from home... But I don't have any idea... If I had a business I'd hire IBS sufferers only! There must be some kind of job we could do... We should start our own business!

My worst symptoms are diarrhoea and abdominal pain which doubles me over when I'm having a bad flare up.I would love to work from home. Trying to find genuine work is tough as there are so many scams out there. If you have any ideas, get in touch, I'm in!

Have you tried taking Miralax? It should help relieve some pain if it's from gas. I take 16 oz water with 2 caps Mirlax in the morning and do the same @ night. When your stomach gets emptied out of all that yucky stuff the bloating should go down. Oh btw the distention is probably what's causing the pain. is ibs-C your problem?

I am exaclty like you. I also suffer from depression, anxiety, eyc, and these symptoms make me even more depresed,It is a vicious circle, sometimes i get at the end of my pacience and I hate life, i have made 2 endocsopies and a colonoscopy hoping for a solution, but nothing. Just try to keep calm and pray for a better health in the future, maybe it will change.
