Hello! I may become a newbie- mostly because I need some real people advice. I need advice from people who also have gut issues because I'm fairly embarrassed to talk to my doctor (I know it's nothing for them, but that shame about talking about MY poo ( ) has kept this quiet for almost a year if not longer). I've been researching various GI issues and tonight happened across a symptom checker with Mayo Clinic- "A change in the frequency or consistency of your stool — for example, you may change from having one normal, formed stool every day to three or more loose stools daily, or you may have only one hard stool every three to four days" :o For whatever reason, I've never heard of this being a symptom of IBS...Before I walk into the doctor office, could a few of you check out my symptoms and see if they sound like IBS? 1. um...same as the definition I found- C for a few days, then I can feel the need starting throughout the day (gas smells nastier and start worry about accidentally poo-ing) leads to what should be a complete evacuation -mushy, loose, not watery like D but more in between, lots of it- but doesn't feel like everything is quite out. Might go another three times that day- sometimes lasts only 24 hours, usually two days, occasionally 3. 2. "Sucking" feeling...you know the feeling when you shake out a can of cranberry sauce? like that except lower left area of abdomen (no pain, just strange sensation) Big indicator that I'm going to be 'ill' in the next few hours. 3. I don't have much pain, some gas pains occasionally but relieved with passing said gas :) 4. I thought I had a slight gluten issue, but after reading some posts about how some foods cause problems and then having those same foods cause no problems- it definitely makes me suspect this may be another symptom. I never understood why there were some days when I could have half a pizza and be fine, and other days when I could have two slices of bread and have gut problems. 5. I have no idea how long this has been a problem. Constipation due to meds for YEARS, maybe 10? Figured it was gluten, tried eliminating it but didn't matter; too embarrassed to mention to my doctor or anyone else so I try to ignore it as much as I can. Thank you for reading, hopefully you can give me some advice on what you think is going on! :) I'm planning on talking to my doctor this Wednesday (although the past few times I said the same thing and chickened out) but I'd like a better idea if I might be becoming a permanent member! :D

Hello MuffinVan.From the symptoms that you seem to be having I would have to say that is IBS. I also have IBS-C. Been this way for about 11 years now. This web site has helped me alot threw the years. I have learned alot and people on this web site have also been a person to talk to when you need it. I don't post much but I do check this site everyday. But the best thing is to have a doctor give u a proper once over. Just to make sure its not anything more serious. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. There are alot of people that are willing to help. Hope to hear from you soon

Hey Duce94! Thanks for the reply! I figured the best advice would be at a site where people have experienced problems similar to mine. I go to see my doctor later this month and (sigh) will talk to him this time :)I read about the problems that people here are facing and see how much courage there is to continue and I'm trying to draw some of that to talk to my doctor...it's nice knowing that if I DO have an issue, that I can come here and there are 43,251 other people who all have dealt with it before! We'll see how it goes :)
