Hi,
I was diagnosed with IBS-C more than 15 years back(I'm Male & 41 now). I was OK and doing well until recently about 4 months ago. About 6 months back my blood pressure(BP) was high so the Doc put me on a BP control medication. I took that for a month and my BP came to normal so I stopped taking it. My total cholesterol has been high (runs in the family) and at around that same time he put me on Lipitor (Atorvastatin) 10 mg. Not sure if its correlated, but after taking the Lipitor for some time my IBS like symptoms started again. I now have constant lower abdominal pain, pressure, gas, irritation of the colon and more importantly I started feeling severe bladder pain. Whenever the gas would build up it would exert enormous pressure on my bladder. It feels like I need to go to the bathroom to empty my bladder even though I did it just a few minutes back. This would become more severe especially during night time. I'm waking up atleast 2-3 times during the night to urinate and/or after that pass gas. This tends to alleviate the pain. But I'm stumped as I never had this problem before.

The Docs have done all the tests including urine, stool, blood, colonoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound but unable to figure the cause. I'm currently taking Colospa Retard(anti spasmodic) for about 3 days now, but it hasn't helped much. Today again I went to see my GI and he recommended Elavil(anti-depressant) in addition to the Colospa Retard. I'm hesitant to start on Elavil yet until I know what is causing so much pressure on my bladder. Does anybody have similar symptoms? My Dad recently died of bladder cancer. I'm hoping I don't have the same thing or something similar.

I'm confused and not sure how to deal with this. I'm eating a bland diet but still no respite.

Any advise/help would be appreciated.

Thanks Much.

I HAVE MOST OF YOUR SYMPTOMS BUT I AM CONSTIPATED AND HAVE SOME MUCUS IN STOOL AT TIMES, NO BLOOD IN MY STOOL, WAS EXAMINED BY THE DOCTOR AND TOLD ME I WAS SUFFERING FROM IBS. BUT THIS ILLNESS IS GETTING ME IN A STATE OF DEPRESSION, I DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING, DON'T WANT TO GO OUT, JUST CONCENTRATE ON THE PAIN AND THINK OF ALL KIND OF THINGS, SOMETIME THINK I HAVE CANCER OF THE COLON BUT THE DOC SAID I WOULD HAVE BLOODY STOOLS. ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM
