In Ohio we are having a bad stomach virus hitting everyone..well after a somewhat good month or so ,on Thurs i got hit out of the blue with terrible diarreha and it has not let up yet..food runs right through...the only thing i did different was to cut down on my preventative Imodium. iwas taking two in the am two at bedtime..i got down to one a day for a few days and bam..got hit bad..but still do not know if it is the flu or the cut off... i cut down because of financial reasons and scared of taking this every day for years..imodium is expensive, i got a script for generic from my doc..but it does not seem to work unless i take a lot of it..like it is not as strong as the imodium. i am now really getting depressed that this will not stop even with taking imodium and lomotil, can it be that it will take a while of getting back to my old schedule of imodium for it to stop?

Yikes. Sounds like it could be stomach flu and you'll have to let it run it's course (a week - 10 days?) then work on getting your system back to normal. For the interim I would eat simple foods rich in carbohydrates and Potassium (like white rice and bananas) plus a few sips of gatorade and plenty of fluids. Get some rest. Then try going back on your Imodium schedule and previous tactics. But count on it taking 6-8 weeks to get back to where you were.

Try using a store brand of imodium.... I have used one for years... it's near half the price of regular imodium and works the same.
