I have just started taking lotronex and have been on it for about 5 days. Currently on 0.5mg twice a day and I've been experiencing horrible lower abdominal pain.. Kinda feels like a D attack but with no D. I feel like the pain is getting worse everytime I eat so I'm stuck eating plain white rice and water. I'm trying to be optimistic about this medication because I am not getting the D but the pain is getting unbearable. I was just wondering if anyone else had these problems and could give me some reassurance. Or when this medication started to help for pain. I'm now taking align probiotic with my morning lotronex but it doesn't seem to help much. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

There is no reason to severely limit your diet like that. Eat as normally as possible. Eating only rice may end up towards being C!Have you had a BM?Try using an anti-gas product (simethicone) WITH your meals. If that doesn't help.. call your Dr.

I've tried to eat normally but now I'm having green D the last two days. I had normal BMs the first two days on the medication but now it seems like I'm going backwards

You may need to supplement the Lotronex.. with either imodium or calcium carbonate supplements. Many folks find they need to use other things besides the Lotronex.. so not a surprise. And yes the pain could be from gas.. so like I said the anti-gas WITH meals could really help you. Also keep in mind that imodium can cause some cramping so I always take an antigas WITH the imodium.

I strongly recommend you contact the doctor who prescribed Lotronex to you. They would be the best person to consult about your reaction to the medication.Jeff

Sounds like my story. I am also new to Lotronex and this website. Did your pain get any better, or did you get any replies with suggestions? I took a break after two weeks of 0.5 mg every other day, and the results of the drug lasted for about two weeks. I'll have to give it another try, but dreading the side effects.

Have you tried 0.5mg only once a day? If you take the calcium, this may be enough to work for you. Also, have you read the package insert? You have to be very careful that it doesn't block your intestines. Somehow, it causes a blood flow issue and some tissue doesn't get any blood, so it dies and that's not good. Listen to your body, stop the med if you need to; you can always try it again.
