amazing how one graph lists pumpkin and sesame very high then other graph doesnt list them , wtf ????????? i find this to happen time after time too with all vitamin and mineral sources .its forced me over the years to cull out the less popular stats and go with popular ones to play the odds

Not spoke to doctor to be classed as deficient but get a lot of muscle cramps and the two things that seem to link to that are potassium and magnesium, because I try to avoid foods with high magnesium that tend to lead to get D its a possibility potassium (as far as im aware) Ill be able to take in diet without issues but if I did the same for magnesium id be screwed.

Muscle cramps can be caused by MANY things.. (Including and most commonly from not drinking enough water.)Go to your Dr before messing around with magnesium or potassium supplements and discuss your concerns. BTW there is no need for you to avoid foods with magnesium in them or potassium. ?? Don't understand why you would want to do that.

I went through the exact same thought process you did. I read about magnesium and its benefits and wanted to try it. Oral ingestion exacerbated D. I bathed in epsom salts, and that exacerbated D. I used "magnesium oil" and that exacerbated D. So, I stopped looking for ways to take magnesium. If you can handle nuts, they are high in it.The other thing is to take it with calcium, which counteracts D. But I think that calcium supplementation can be dangerous, especially if you are supplementing with Vitamin D, because you can get hypercalcemia, which is serious.
Because magnesium causes D I was looking for advice online how counter effects of low magnesium but not get D taking more of it and came accross Magnesium oil which shouldnt effect us digestivelyAnyone tried it or know if the theory would worklink below was one from holland and barrett to show you the sort I am thinking ofhttp://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=2310&prodid=2537&cid=143&sid=0Thanks

Well, as suggested, I DID go to the dr about my muscle cramping--my levels were fine. Then, on my own, I upped my potassium and magnesium and wow, no more cramping. told him about that and he said he'd have to try it, he also gets cramps. Don't overdo, just up a litte and watch that you get the right ratio. By the way, my vit D was in the good range too, but then they upped what the good range was and then I was low. Consult your doctor, they aren't God.

Going to make an appointment for next month but Ill be surprised if its anything more than need for potassium and magnesium, as far as im aware potassium wont cause D but the magnesium would, ive tried putting a little more fruit and nuts in my diet but its starting my IBS up again so looking at magnesium oil to bypass the digestive part.Surprised it still gave you D Moises but I guess everything absorbed in your body circulates so it might not be the best idea Ive had.Trudyg how did you increase your levels? Supliments or diet? If suppliments roughly how much did you try so I can start there and increase or decrease as needed.

I added supplements and also foods. You can get low-dose supplements so you know exactly how much/tablet and go up slowly. I don't know off-hand the proper ratio but that's the important thing. Take all your vitamins, etc, and add up the mg's of potassium, magnesium & calcium, then work to get the proper ratio by adding supplements or foods high in the mineral you need. Be aware that some medications deplete certain things, so an asthma inhalor may reduce something and you'll need to supplement to get it up into the good range. Also, an incorrect ratio can cause heart irregularity, so if you already have a heart issue you need to be extra careful. For heart attacks, the first thing they do is give you calcium channel blockers.....They know that calcium is usually off. As I said before, take it slow and monitor carefully how you feel; you'll know when you get it right--the cramps will ease up. As a starter, I'd move the time of day you take your calcium to right before bed and see if that helps. For me, I don't eat the volume of food to get what I need, esp with a touchy stomach. I must supplement to get what I need. If I were to try and get it all from food I'd be eating all the time and big as a barn.
