I'm back again after I found "The Zone" it was laying low and I knew it was always there its just I'm more confused as the Doctors are stumped as well. I've learned a lot from this site and used all of it to maintain my bowel movements as well. My IBS I believe was from me having Sleep Apnea they finally diagnosed me with it after a few years as it looked so much like Panic Attacks which I had years ago. Yet what was different was waking with my Blood Pressure high and a Rapid Heart Beat to boot. Been on a CPAP for just over a month and I'm getting used to it as the I had mask issues. The coolest thing I've found was the way my stomach has felt when I'm using the machine just while I'm going to sleep. That's the good news the sad news is I haven't woken up with those rapid heart rates in a long time and I had one tonight.Just a couple of questions as to SA and IBS:Is there a cause and effect from SA to IBS?Could IBS-C give someone an elevated BP and HR while sleeping? As I seem to be waking with those very symptoms and having to go to the bathroom to relieve myself and then it goes up even higher. The odd part I mentioned is the left side of my head feels weird and it takes an hour or so to go away.I have to say when I took the sleep study in an a controlled environment my lower bowel area felt so good and when I awoke it was so 'Still' not nervous or that funny feeling. Thanks for hearing me out....

Very difficult questions to answer without pulling on scientific studies. One can only hypothesize!! I doubt there are even studies on this matter!! Try looking on google scholar. Bp can elevate with stress and discomfort so constipation could be a factor but i dont think sleeping is a factor as a person is more relaxed in a sleep state. O2 levels can drop during sleep amd raise heart rate but not sure how that would work with your machine. Also no idea about the feeling you have in your head.Sorry not much help but very difficult questions.

That does seem to be the consensus as to the BP and Rapid Heart Rate on another forum for Sleep Apnea many say that they've had similar episodes. To add to that one doctor has said he feels this goes back may years and has become worse over time and age. It was the same doctor who stated that once my Sleep Apnea is under control he feels my IBS, panic attacks, brutus, and other items as well. He's not saying its a panacea yet he feels that's the main cause for me and my IBS. No many at the Sleep Apnea forum feel the same way yet they say check with my doctor. I did end up in the hospital early this morning as my heart rate would not slow down it topped out just over 150 and stayed at 130 area for 20mins the for over an hour at 100. They've kept me for observations to see whats going on with the heart rate. Thanks TVgirl OH! Someone mentioned to try Activated Charcoal yeah it worked great on my lower bowel yet it kinda gave me some constipation. That's not fair it worked pretty good and to have that side effect makes me laugh and cry.

Poor sleep quality seems to make IBS worse from some of the clinical research (as well as other things). So dealing with the sleep apnea may make the IBS and possibly other things better as well.I would tend to think the SA would be more linked to the heart rate and blood pressure issues than constipation.

Kathleen M. you are right as to SA and heart rate, there are sometimes where a stool can affect me like this morning. A whole week has gone by and there hasn't been that high BP or the Rapid Heart Rate, until this morning.I've always been told look for 'Cause and Effect' could this be it? I had a good lunch a larger than normal meal I usually eat several smaller meals, it filled me up so I did take Miralax and stool last night yet not all of it cleared. This morning I woke with 149/89 be 89, what's odd was that over this last week it didn't go that high. After BP check a few minutes I went to the bathroom had a stool I waited around 30 mins. to check BP again it was still high again I feel another stool coming on. I don't want to over use the laxatives as I was getting by with Psyllium pills and ground Flaxseed, should I increase them or use more laxatives? I try not to eat large meals yet sometimes I kinda binge as I grow tired from time to time of the small meals. The answer is clear smaller meals throughout the day as well as the Psyllium and Flaxseed, and laxatives from time to time. Thanks for hearing me out.
