So sorry to hear you're not feeling well. This does sound like IBS and honestly from what I have researched using medications that lower stomach acid seems to make things worse. Often IBS is caused by a condition known as SIBO, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Reducing stomach acid limits the acid that helps to kill off some of the bacteria. I recently started using enteric coated peppermint oil capsules and this has helped tremendously. They have to be taken on an empty stomach 3 times daily. It not only helps to control the spasms of the colon but it also relieves gas and bloating and it kills off the bacteria. I also drink a lot of chamomile tea. It is recommended to stay away from caffiene and carbonated beverages.A low carbohydrate diet helps because the sugar in the carbohydrates only helps to feed the bacteria and many of us also use the FODMAPS diet as well. Here is some information http://altmedicine.a.../overgrowth.htm <there are 2 pages to thisI also researched about using proteolytic enzymes as the bacteria in the small intestine creates what is known as a bio film and it is difficult to break this down. Someone on here recommended Klaire Labs Interfase Plus. I just ordered some from Amazon. I also take 2 cloves of raw garlic 2X a day because it also has antibacterial properties. I know what you mean about the Elavil...My doctor prescribed Imipramine which is very similar. It has anticholinergic properties and this is what causes the elevated heartrate. I had severe sleep disturbance from it as well so I had to stop taking it too. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is elevated in ppl with IBS and is what causes the spasms in the gut. It also causes a tightening in the chest because it is a broncoconstricter and can sometimes cause diffuculty breathing. It tenses up the muscles in the back near the shoulder blades and sometimes the throat and causes hot flashes and oily skin. I hope this was of some help to you :D

Have you tried a good probiotic? It may take some time to see improvement.. but many have seen improvement suing them. So give it a decent trial.. think weeks not days. Good ones.. Align,Culturelle, Florastor, Sustenex, etc... If after a good trial you see no improvement .. try one with different bacterial strains.
Please remember this is a group of folks seeking support on how to live with and manage IBS. THESE ARE ONLY MY OWN THOUGHTS. IF YOU WANT AN EXPERT OPINION, ASK A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.

Most drug stores sell enteric coated peppermint oil capsules. However I ended up having to order mine online through Walgreens. I use Nature's Way Peptogest dietary supplement softgels they're $12.99 and there are 60 so @ 3X a day they last about 20 days. Walgreens had a buy on get one half off deal when I reordered some yesterday. Chamomile tea can be found in any grocery store in the coffee/tea isle. There are several different varieties I like Bigelow Cozy Chamomile, it's in a bright yellow box with pictures of the chamomile flower (looks like a daisy) and a butterfly. I also like Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime chamomile tea, it has spearmint in it and tastes really good. This is a green and cream colored box w/ a bear sitting in a chair with a nightgown on. I don't use milk and I use to use a bit of sugar in it but have since stopped using sugar because I have read up about going on a low carbohydrate diet because the sugar/carbs feed the "unfriendly" bacteria in the small intestine. Make sure when you take the peppermint that you take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. If you take it w/ food it can cause the capsule to ope up too soon before reaching the small intestine and this can cause terrible heartburn. Also try not to take it too close to bedtime because it can act as a stimulant and cause difficulty falling asleep. Hope you are feeling better soon :)

You may have Delayed Gastric EMPTYING (Gastroparesis). You could check out my blog. I have communicated with Dr. C. Andrews of the University of Calgary. You need to eliminate almost every other possibility before you can be diagnosed with Gastroparesis, The least expensive and most effecient way is to join a research study. Below is info on this, right in Calgary!Welcome to the Centre for Digestive MotilityOur goal is to improve the medical care for people with digestive motility disorders through clinical service and research. We are based in Western Canada at the University of Calgary, Alberta and work within the Division of Gastroenterology at the Faculty of Medicine. As Director, Dr. Christopher Andrews, MD, is active in the discovery and development of new diagnostic tools and treatments for digestive motility disorders such as gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He also runs a motility clinic in Calgary in addition to the regional motility testing laboratory. As this site grows, we will offer you the latest news about digestive motility disorders in Canada. We are actively recruiting for research studies investigating treatments for gastroparesis.

Are you taking the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach with a full glass of water? If you take them with food it can cause the capsule to open too soon and this is what causes the heartburn. The only way to know if you have a hiatal hernia is to speak to your Dr about getting an upper GI series where they insert an endoscope into your throat and esophagus to see if you have one. I have never heard of surgery for heartburn and non stop burping but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I know there is surgery for hiatal hernia though. If you're having more heartburn w/ the peppermint oil it says on my bottle to stop using it. :(

I would love to hear how this goes for you. I too have a hiatal hernia, gerd, IBS misery and I am absolutely terrified at the prospect of surgery. I wish you the best of luck at finding some peace from the symptoms. It hits hard having you talk about the excessive belching.. it's never ending and no where is that listed as a symptom that I've seen. I didn't really know why and no one could give me answers and for some reason people have a hard time seeing just how uncomfortable every day is with this.

Hi everyone.. i just want to tell you my story.. and i hope you guys can help:

I have a problem with abdominal pain since 3 months already. I thought it was just the air trapped. so i just ignored. few months ago i noticed something has changed in my stool. i have loose stool, black tarry stool (one time occasion), and now continously foul smell and jelly-like (with mucus) stool for the last 3 months. I also have this non-stop burping syndrome for almost 4 years now. Initially i was diagnosed for peptic ulcer and inflammation in the stomach following upper GI 4 years ago. i always felt that i have a sour stomach all the time so they say i have GERD and dyspepsia. i stopped taking prilosec and omeprazole after that year as i felt that it was not progressing well.. since then. i have suffered from this pain.... I always feel tired easily and one thing is that.. there is a bruise mark on my stomach, 3cm below the sternum. every time i wanted to pass stool, that area starts to be painful.. really painful. and i feel spasms of the colon and also my intestine.. Please help me. I am a male, 27 years of age. Thank you
