The stomach is an acidic environment (HCL) but you could neutralize it with baking soda. I've read topics on here with people claiming that *maybe* our digestive systems are too "acidic" and I've been thinking about Baking Soda...

I've read the complete opposite. Often IBS is caused by SIBO small intestinal bacterial overgrowth nand reducing stomach acid is one of the worst things you can do =/

I remember reading before baking soda though not a magic cure did help some people. For one thing it's supposed to be a natural deodorant like chorophyll. Secondly it does raise the ph levels of your body. I guess it kind of depends on the person . Cheryl is right that if you are producing too little stomach acid in the first place then it would be a big mistake to take baking soda. Personally I had a colonoscopy done a while back and while nothing much (which seems to be the case for everyone on here) was found to be wrong the gastro felt my stomach was inflammed and I was producing too much stomach acid so I guess it would be good for me. I think you can buy in most pharmacies some kind of test that tells if if your body is too acidic or too alkaline (I think you put a strip of special paper on your tongue, don't know how reliable it is). You can put a spoon of baking soda in water to take it if you like but I remember reading someone who said they actually sprinkled some of it in their bath and it worked quite well.(ps your compilation of success stories is class Pengu, thanks a million)

Personally I've only started to feel very acidy in the last while but I've had my odour for years and years. So I'm not too sure will those medications you mentioned Kirstie or the baking soda help me. I had proton pump to help with the acid but my s,mell is the same. However that's absolutley fantastic news from both of you Kirstie and Pengu. I.m really keeping my fingers crossed that your initial success turns out to be a long term cure for both of you. I know sometimes what looks like working turns out to be a false promise but certainly if you have ten ays without odour that's a great sign Kirstie. I wonder do you mind me asking Pengu can you usually smell yourself and is your day today extremely unusual in that you couldn't detect anything. I sincerely hope it is.I'm sure everybody on here will be following yer progress closely this could be a real break through for some of us on here. Good luck guys.

That's great news pengu! However, were you around other people to make sure that they didn't notice or did you sit in front of the computer all day? :P Also, how many teaspoons of BS are you taking with an 8oz glass of water?

I'm cured it appears...First time in 4.5 years that nobody sniffled, held their nose, coughed, etc. around me despite being in breathing range of me for the entire work day. Used baking soda for 4 days straight (2x a day of half a tbsp. baking soda with half full glass of water)...So happy I'm leaving work a little early! :P Love ya'll and hope you guys get it figured out!

Yea I can usually smell myself. Not as strong as I did that first day with the baking soda which smelled like raw ###### and was disgusting. But yea I can smell myself.Turns out I'm not cured.Had half a day with no smells or sniffs or nothing. Sat with my family and watched TV. No groans or face touching or signs of disgust. Felt good to be honest. First time in a long time that's happened.I was kinda happy is all. After that is when I came and wrote that post. Took a big ###### round 3pm. By the end of the day I couldn't even be in the same room with anyone. Ended up going to bed with no supper cause there were people downstairs.Sorry for getting your hopes up. I'll keep trying the baking soda and GSE. It's only been a couple of days who knows.Three years and counting I'm real happy for you. I was taking 1 tbspn a day in a cup of water. 8 drops of GSE morning and night. I'll double the dosage of baking soda, try and do what u did.Was wondering what your symptoms were. Do u think you had candida or was it something else completely?

http://ehealthforum.com/health/bad-body-odor-like-feces-t190560.html#18_postI should have mentioned I'm also taking L-Carnitine (brand "Source Naturals", dose 250MG x 1 capsule a day) and Glycine (brand "Country Life", dose 500 mg capsule) as instructed in the post linked to. Maybe a combination of them? I'm assuming I have something other than TMAU but not sure what. I used to have terrible, terrible stools which used to get fixed with the use of probiotics and all, but...the smell remained. However, even after stopping the usage of probiotic pills, my stomach had healed and had much better stools. My guess is it has something to do with balancing out our overly acidic stomach environment (could it cause proliferations in the intestinal lining?) and baking soda clears it up going down.Again, I'm not out of the woods yet as only one day has passed with no odor issues. I'm looking forward to Monday to see where I'm at...However, my confidence is off the chart rights now so I truly think I'm "healed".

Donno bout that. I always thought cancer was caused by premarital sex and/or inappropriate self touching.Since it's only been a day I donno if you're cured. Hope you are but it'd be funny if you had just gotten used to the smell like I had.But hey if you're cured go out and live it up.Bang a different chick every night. Quit work.Bring a gun to schoolJust have a blast man. Do it for all the rest of us that can't do ######.How old are you anyways. tell me more about urself.

I'm 21 years old and have had this problem since 1-2-3 (easy way to remember the date: January 3rd, 2008 aka "1st day of 2nd semester of 3rd year in High School"). Got bullied from 2nd semester Junior year all the way to final day of senior year *sigh*. College wasn't much better, but I'm about halfway through completing my Bachelor's in Computer Science. Took most courses online but live, in-room classes weren't THAT BAD if I chose to ignore the asshats around me.

oceanblue, from what I have read a LOT of IBS sufferers get mucus in the stool in general.Pengu and anyone the baking soda does not work for: As someone said above....there is a school of thought that LOW stomach acid causes problems. I think if you google baking soda there is a morning test you can do at home where you can tell if it is your problem. Sodium bicarbonate has a lot of sodium in it so be careful those that take it.Back to low stomach acid...some people find Betatine HCL or drinking straight Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother) helps their problems and odor issues. I tried the HCL once but I am prone to gastric ulcers and it can be dangerous with that, so again, be careful. I think also people who take GSE orally (and have cured fbo) may have low acid as well because GSE has a pH around 2.2. GSE is also touted as antifungal and antimicrobial so it may help lower the load of bad bacteria. So there's a few things to try if you are working on the hypochloria/hyperchloria concept of stomach acid. I am happy to see something working for once!!! I am trying something right now that has to do with more of the oral area (MMX had some success there) and I will report back after a month of self-experiments to make sure it is working. Good luck all :) and sorry about my many duplicate posts the other day. My phone freaked out on me lol.
Have a few other things on my plate besides IBS:

I'm 20. Had it almost 4 years. Can see myself having it for 4 more. Never had a problem with bullying but I did suffer some ostracism. Hell I actually had fun. There were some tough times but I still got laid and I still had friends.Thought none of that matters now. Nothing matters now.Just wanna live on a farm with my dog and till the land and read some good books and go hunting in the woods. The Walden life.Man I hope you're cured. Donno how a bachelors degree in anything is gonna help you when you smell like ######.Everybody's telling me to go to school but they don't understand. You could be good at what you do but there's no amount of skill that can compensate for that.Or maybe I'll live on the beach in Hawaii or Brazil. Big country, lot of wild land out there.Build a little wooden shack and live off the land.Grow a long straggly beard and learn how to play guitar. The local children will write songs and tell stories about meThe women will whisper and trade gossipI'll be a legend. A god to these people.

oceanblue I used to get mucus. Now I don't. We all have LG. Sometimes it gets bad enough where it progresses to FBO. But we all have it.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thats a lot of good advice bluebird. I'll definitely look into that. Good luck with the self medication. Kinda risky but it's all we got.
