Even with a specific diet plan some people will have "safe" foods that they do not tolerate as the design of the elimination diet is not to eliminate all foods that could possibly be a trigger for any human (as that means a no food at all at any time diet which no one can keep up for long) but to eliminate foods with a specific trait that should reduce symptoms for a particular group of people. That means every single diet, no matter how well researched or how effective will need some individual adjustments for people who have an additional intolerance going on that isn't covered by the reason any given diet calls foods "safe" or "unsafe".The reverse can be true as well. Sometimes people will find any given food that is "unsafe" is OK for them even if they do better on the diet overall. Depends on how badly intolerant they are of whatever it is the diet is based on, or what % of what the diet is designed for they actually have a problem with.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm aware that most seem to have idiosyncrasies and that no one diet fits all. I was just wondering about corn in particular since it seems to be well tolerated for the majority of IBS'ers.

I'm pretty sure I've read other people here over the years who have had problems with corn. The standard allergy test elimination diets (usually one starch, one meat, one veggie and one fruit and nothing else at all allowed) use either wheat, rice, or corn as the starch in the diet as people are usually only sensitive to one or two of them, but not all three. There seem to be a fair number of website for people with corn intolerance/allergy so I really don't think you are anywhere near the only person with this issue.
