For a few weeks now I will go to bed feeling okay and then out of the blue hours later usually around 2 a.m I get woke up with bowel cramps. I feel sick , sometimes I just vomit or rather dry heave and that happens for maybe a half hour or so and then I get up to see if I can go to the bathroom. Most times not, I just pee. but then if I can get back to sleep it stops and I get up my regular time which is 5 a.m. I am not sure what this is but it seems if my back pain is bad that it happens more. Last night I twisted my back and came in the house in agony and last night is when I woke up. I just feel like something is stuck at the end of my rectum and will not come out. Any thoughts or suggestions.

I was having this same problem a few months ago, only I would have diarrhea everytime I woke up. I would also have a terrible backache which is what I think woke me up in the first place. The I would feel generally crummy for the rest of the day. Are you having any bowel movements at all during the day, or just waking up because of the pain? If you are not having bowel movements, then I would be concerned and talk to your doctor. If you are having bowel movements then I would think things are probably ok, just part of your IBS problem. At any rate, you probably should mention this to your doctor and see what they say. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Have same problem. Very nauseated when I wake up. I usually take the chewable anti acid pills my doc gave me. And turn partially on left side and stomach. Lay very still until can go back to sleep. Usually at least takes nausea away but abdomen doesn't feel better until I am finally able to have a bowel movement. Which usually ends up with diarrhea type for a couple of days

I also had the same problem for a couple months. Through trial and error, I discovered that if I don't eat for a minimum 2 hours before going to bed, it's not so bad. I'm also testing the theory if I drink a glass of soya milk or glass of water just before going to bed, it also helps. Still working on this one. Fortified soya milk seems to really sooth my bowels when they are acting up. It's not easy, but stopping the late night snacks also helps me a lot. Good luck.

I have had some of those symptoms for several years; never throwing up but waking up between 4 and 6 am and feeling nauseated. I am now taking 100 mg of imipramine and I am no longer nauseated and the pain I have had is 50% less than I have experienced the past 10 years.

I expierence the same thing every night and morning. All during different times. The pain only goes away if I vomit or have a BM. The nausea is so bad that I don't even leave the bathroom half the time until something comes out. Have you talked to your doctor about Phenergan or Zofran? I take 8mg of Zofran for my nausea and 4mg dissolvable tablets if it gets really bad. Phenergan can make you really drowsy but it works really good too. But Zofran is by the far the best anti-nausea/vomitting medication I've come across so far. I highly suggest it if your nausea gets too unbearable :)
