Hey everyone. My IBS has been a bit weird lately, constipation but looseish stools and after taking Imodium five or six days ago I've only been once or twice. I'm unsure about whether this is a sign I should up my fibres. Thing is one of my annoying IBS conditions that I have so much problem and discomfort with is frequent incomplete bowel movements and this happened often as a trigger when I consumed insoluble fibre such as cereal, brown bread (occasionally) that sort of thing, as well as tea and coffee (which I stopped drinking). These made me go up to 6 times daily and have the constant need of an urge to go so I cut them out of my diet.Unfortunately now with the not being able to go I'm wondering whether to take the plunge and eat some to get things going so to speak. I'm just worried it'll have the same affect and make me go too much again. I am going to be taking fybogel (Metamucil) as my dr wants me to, and I do eat some soluble fiber.Unfortunately I have hemmorhoids so going can be uncomfortable sometimes (and I think problems with my pelvic floor muscles as its extremely difficult to move things along)Any advice?

I am one one of those people who does better with fiber. And I also get hemorrhoids if I'm not ingesting enough of it, but rather than take Metamucil, which gives me gas and pains, I just eat a very high-fiber diet, rich in whole foods, grains fruits and vegetables (all low-FODMAP).

ALL increases in fiber will cause gas until one's body gets used to it. (Could be up to a few weeks)Try Benefiber rather than diet if you are unsure how much you will need. A product like benefiber is much more easily manipulated to go up or down a dose than foods are. I didn't like Metamucil either... Citracel was better.... but Benefiber has zero taste.... and one can put it in any beverage. It is clear. So that appeals to me. But try different ones if you want.

Ah, they do seem to sell benefiber in our health store so perhaps I should get my hands on some. I really dislike the texture and taste of fybogel so I guess it's worth a go!

I use pure organic psyllium powder. One teaspoon, three times per day. Mix it with a frother, because it gels quickly and will stick to your mouth like glue. The "clotting" effect is obvious, and that is why I have had so much success with it.I found that the Metamucil type was full of other things I did not want, and was not as effective.

Is benefiber okay? I hear it uses wheat and thats a no no for IBS, I personally dont know if im allergic to specific kind of food. Right now I just eat oatmeal for breakfast, since im kinda used to that but ive considered supplements. Problem is, how many supplements is a person with IBS is supposed to take? I take peppermint and probiotics already, do i really need yet another one on top of them? Thats not counting the other herbal stuff that i try.

Wheat is a "no no" for Celiac's Disease.. not IBS. Ask your Dr to test you for Celiacs if you are concerned.
