Im 27, & I am scheduled for a colonoscopy next week, Aug 10th. I do not want to go in there unprepared. I have searched and googled it all but what I want to know is does it hurt? Cause quite honestly, my pain tolerance level has been surpassed for soooo many months now im not sure I can handle any more pain in my stomach. Ive still yet to be diagnosed with anything except female problems. My colon had a moderate amount of stool during my ct scan that the doctors said they could not rule anything out. They are looking for divertulitis??(i dont think thats the correct word), IBD, etc... And then IBS if nothing is found. I have my drink mix for colonoscopy and since I can go to the bathroom 12 times an hr on my own, I dont see spending the previous day on the toilet a problem since that is already an issue, but if the procedure will hurt, id like to know beforehand. Thanks. But in all honest opinion, if I had ibd or the other, wouldnt that have been obvious on the ct scan? except, when that was done, I hadnt had an attack in two weeks. The only two weeks this yr I didnt have one. Go figure!

Your colonoscopy will not hurt. You will be completely unaware of anything that is happening to you. Linda

There can be pain, but that is why they sedate you with enough medication so you aren't aware before they start.Every so often they don't get enough in, but that is fairly rare, and they can up the meds if they see you need more.

The prep is the worst part. The colonoscopy didn't hurt but I did get a horrid hemmerhoid afterwards.Word of advice... Use hemmorhoid cream after just in case :)I had one done to rule out ibd and crohns. When they did the ct scan they didn't see ibd. Not sure if they can with a ct scan. I wish you luck!

I've had three of them over the years. None of them hurt. Drinking the prep material is the worst part. You will not feel a thing during the procedure.

I have had a fair few colonoscopy's, i have never been sedated but given painkillers during it, only felt a little uncomfortable going around the bends, is very interesting wathcing it on the tv.

I was entirely sedated during the procedure and didn't feel a thing. I even had a nice sleep actually. However, the preparation, is terrible. I wish I could tell you that the preparation "sounds worse than it is" but really, it's terribly unpleasant. The only pain I had, is to have a really sore butt because of all the wiping. Other than that, you won't have pain. Just a lot of trips to the bathroom because of the laxative and that's really unpleasant.

Thanks for the responses. Its going to be an adjustment because once I go to sleep wednesday I cant eat solid foods til friday (procedure is at 1p.m.) So to me that will be tough. I had hoped for a morning appnmnt however they were so booked, id have to wait another month for that. Considering the condition im in, im definitely not waiting any longer before a diagnosis. but thanks again, I was concerned about it being painful. My entire stomach is so sensitive to the touch, so I was worried it would be worse during the colonoscopy.

Thank yal. You were right. the colonoscopy prep was the worst, very nasty, and the 2 day liquid diet was torture, I was starving!!! but the actual procedure, I was talking to the nurse about our daughters and woke up with a sprite in my hand. Lol. So thankful for that. I didnt even get sleepy. I was in mid sentence then completely out. The doctors and nursing staff were wonderful and my colonoscopy was clear. I was tested for malabsorbtion and sprue thru blood test then have a two week follow up to discuss results and lotronex. Thanks again.
