i run the water in the sink (depending on how long i think i'm going to be in there) and/or turn on the bathroom fan (it's a bit noisy)for odors, sometimes i use fragrance spray ( i used to carry a purse size one when i worked) or if you don't want the fragrance smell, there's a spray product called ozium which masks odors without a smell. or you can also light a match, (which i also used to do at work) except of course then you have that lighted match smell. but it does mask odor. and sometimes i burn a scented candle or use one of those plug-in fragrancers.and of course i just try to relax about it all, as well. after all, noises and sounds are natural--everybody makes them--and i know that but i do understand what you mean--sometimes mine seem particularly embarrassing (at least to me). it does help to have an understanding person living in the house and not someone who makes rude remarks. my hubby is actually proud of his--lol.

For the odors, there are a couple of products. One is called Fresh Drop and another is called One Drop. You put a couple of drops in the bowl beforehand and it supposedly forms a barrier on the water surface to keep odors from escaping. They come in very small bottles so they are easy to carry with you. You can find it online- not sure if it is in stores.

haha I was just thinking about this for when my roomate moves in... I was thinking shower radio. I usually run water also, but my bf is always singing in there. I used to use that toilet bowl stuff, there's one called 'Just a Drop' that was for sale in box stores all over the place. I haven't noticed it in a while but it's prob still out there, walmart or somewhere like that had it.

Embarrassing, you say? Welcome to the world of IBS :PTo be honest, I think this forum sets a whole new bar when it comes to what is considered "embarrassing". Since most members suffer from stuff that non-IBS society would call "embarrassing," it takes quite a lot of me to feel embarrassed here!

Hey there! I live in university accommodation.. last year was fine because I could find quiet toilets on campus but this year I am off campus so no escape - housemates will always be around! I am so glad someone else worries about the same thing - this is my main concern with IBS! I have ordered 'just a drop' which you put down the toilet BEFORE you go to mask odors (I will report back if it works!) as for noise, I sometimess start the shower running, go to the loo, then hvae a shower. this only works if your shower and toilet trips coincide.I havent told my housemates about my IBS.. do you think it would be better to admit it so they might be more understanding or best to keep quiet?I dont think I'm giving very helpful suggestions here, but I just wanted to share the fact that I have the same worries!
