Hi Ty,I appreciate the advice you have so kindly bestowed upon all of us about the magnesium. I definitely have found it to help. I have a couple of food related questions though. Just reading through some of the comments on this page, I find mixed reactions to fruit. Some say it is very helpful for IBS-C; others say to stay away from it. I generally try to eat a diet very high in fiber. But sometimes I wonder, if that contributes to the pain by causing excess gas. I really have no idea what triggers the 'attacks,' as they appear to come and go as they please, regardless if i'm avoiding certain foods. So I was just curious if you avoid certain foods or just believe in moderation? Have you discovered any types of food that tend to cause irritation? another thing, sometimes i think it may be starchy foods, but if i get an attack, i don't know if it was caused by the bread i ate yesterday, the fruit i ate this morning, or the wine i just finished. I definitely like your suggestion of frequent, smaller meals, but that's sometimes difficult to discipline one too, especially when you usually eat with friends or family. i'm skinny, and always get comments insinuating a kind of eating disorder. sometimes i wish everyone could have ibs for a day so they'd understand and be quiet. anyways, just some thoughts. Thanks a lot.lit

buddha - I find that too much fiber causes pain and gas for me. I do try to keep a lot of fiber in my diet, but increasing it too quickly is a painful thing to do! I try to have oatmeal for breakfast during the work week at least twice and eat a granola-type cereal on the weekends. Starches are not good for me, but I love them! Those are things that I have a hard time keeping in moderation.I do believe in moderation, but even with that there are things I avoid: bagels, oranges, grapefruits and fruit juices. Bagels just are too much for me and cause a lot of gas, but if I only have them once every 3/4 months, then I seem to be okay. I had a horrible attack that lasted three days after eating a grapefruit. I have a wedge or two and a little bit of juice once in a while. For some reason I'm sensitive to citric acid. So, as far as whether some fruits are good for C-types or whether to avoid them really depends on you. I cannot eat apples everyday, but that doesn't mean someone else can't. It's a game of trial and error and you need to find the foods that work for you. Bananas are fine for me, but others find they are not.The only thing I think works for everyone is drinking as much water as you possibly can!Ty Posted Image
