I just wanted to let everyone know about my little experience in Las Vegas. It was my first time there and I have been dealing with IBS-D since the 6th grade, I am 24 now, so needless to say, my nerves can sometimes get the best of me. However, my excitement in traveling to Vegas must have helped, because the entire way there from Florida was wonderful. A little tip for the folks traveling by plane, even though you have to sit in the back, most commercial planes have 2 bathrooms in the back and only one in the front, this too, helped to calm the nerves.Once there, it was only a quick trip to our hotel, the Luxor, and we were settled in to our room within 10 15 minutes after leaving the airport. Let me tell all the IBS suffers in the world, GO TO VEGAS and kiss all your cares away. I have never seen so many bathrooms in my life. And with all of the distractions, I didn't know if I was coming or going. No matter where you looked on the strip, it was one hotel after another and most of them had bathrooms right up front.I only had one instance where my IBS-D came up and that was when I was leaving for the airport. It stayed with me all the way through the flight, but thanks to my friend Immondium, it wasn't too bad. I highly recommend going to Vegas, especially during May and June, since they offer so many dicounts and upgrades. My fiancee and I staying in the Jacuzzi suite in the pyramid for only $100 per night. It was amazing. Thanks for the great message board, it has halped my greatly!

I have had IBS for 12 years. I am a big Vegas fan and am going to Vegas a week from Saturday. As usual I am also nervous about getting on that plane. My remedy for plane travel (especially early morning flights) is to eat nothing except sparkling water before take off. In addition, I take 2 immodium as soon as I get out of bed in the morning. For me, the key is not to eat even if I am hungry. I will eat once I am in Vegas and know there is not issues about bathrooms near by. My wife knows about my problem and understands about me needing a bathroom near by. I have learned over the past few months that people with IBS get very embarrased because they know exactly what happens in the bathroom (the diarrhea, the pain, the dirtiness)except you. When you get out of the bathroom, try to remember that nobody knows what exactly happened in there except you!!!

I went Vegas before my years of using calcium so I had the urgency also. Everything went fine and like the others said plenty of restrooms and open 24/7 and they want you to visit them at all the casinos. You will have a great time.Linda
Linda (D-Type)If I don't take my calcium. Gall Bladder removed in 1976 and suffered with urgent diarrhea until I started calcium.

not just the casinos, but also lots of restaurants too! I was there in November and did have to make a rush to a bathroom, but they were all over the place. as for the plane ride, maybe just load up on immodium. I start the night before and then eat carefully. I had no problems on the flights at all!most of all - have fun!!!nancy

Lucky you I would love to go back to Las Vegas. It is the best place for IBS-D. I was so nervous to go there. I found lots of washrooms always open and in the hotels always clean. Have fun.

Ok , don't know if I will be a lot of help but..My husband used to be stationed in Las Vegas . We lived there from '80-'82... many years ago ( that is where our first son was born also ).I know it has grown a lot since then, BUT...even back then there were casinos everywhere. They are open 24/7... so you will always have a place to run to the restroom if you need to. SO relax and enjoy , enjoy , enjoy. My birthday is in April too( 24th).. when is yours ???Have fun !!

So glad to hear you had a great time. Vegas is my favorite place. And you are right - there are bathrooms in great abundance there! I never worry about IBS attacks when I'm visiting Sin City! My next trip is to Disney World and luckily, there are a lot of bathrooms there too.

One good thing about Las Vegas restrooms (besides an abundance of them)...is that they have advertisements / music playing in most of them. For Example...telling you who is playing there during the month, or to check out the buffet, or they have jackpot sounds. So, it drowns out your bodily sounds. The restrooms there are hardly ever crowded. My favorite tricks to do in a public restroom may help you, when you don't have the luxury of Vegas Restroom Audio...1. Let loose while crumpling up a paper toilet cover 2. Flush right as you let loose3. Pretend you are looking for a pad in your purse, & make lots of noise with your keys at time of impact.Have fun in Vegas. I am going also for my B Day in April.

you will have a great time! We go so often that Vegas is starting to be a comfort zone for me. Restrooms everywhere and usually decent clean ones too...esp at all the nice hotels. If you don't feel well, relax in your room for a while..Vegas is open 24/7 so you can gamble whenever you want! I'm on the West Coast so our plane ride is only an hour or so. How long is the plane ride? There is a bathroom if you need it...so don't panic. We're going again for 4 nights in August...can't wait!

Well I made it unscathed!!!Despite our plane being delayed over 5 hours, the trip was wonderful!!! Our flight was supposed to depart Las Vegas at 11:15 pm and get us back into Vancouver at 2:00 am Monday morning. I thought that that would be rough!! Turns out that our plane was still in Calgary at 11:15 and we did not depart until after 4:00 am. Wasn't able to sleep in the airport or on the plane. I WAS AWAKE FOR OVER 24 HOURS!!! And all of us IBSer's just love to wait for things, don't we???
The fountains at the Bellagio were wonderful. The Venetian was by far my favorite! Shoped til we dropped in Caesars Palace. The Alladin was the only hotel we missed. On Saturday I walked from the Luxor to the Stratosphere and felt wonderful!! And both my husband and I came back WINNERS!! Needless to say I skipped the buffet's and didn't drink any alcohol. I just ate sensibly and didn't have any problems.
I think that I may have control over this whole IBS thing now and the trip proved it to me. Treating my anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and taking my Caltrate faithfully has allowed me to live again!!!
Can't wait for my next adventure!!Thanks everyone,Marnie
