My 5 year old son

My 5 year old son experienced a stressful event at school one morning last week. He came home and had diarrhea that afternoon. Complaining with a tummy ache and now two days after the event his diarrhea has turned into nothing but mucas when he goes to the bathroom. My research found that stressful events can bring on symptoms of IBS. I am begging for answers that will help his symptoms go away.

Sorry to read about your son.

Sorry to read about your son. It may just be a coincidence with the stressful event and the symptoms that you have described.

A diagnosis of IBS is generally made after 3 months of symptoms. I believe unexplained diarrhea lasting more than 48-72 hours in a child needs to be looked at by a physician. I recommend you seek medical attetion for your son if the symptoms do not improve on their own.
