Hi,

Bit of a gross post, but has anyone else with IBSD experienced their food not digesting (as in coming out in their BMs)?  I've found that no matter how easily digestible the food (and, believe me, I've done research on easily digestible foods!), I'm finding undigested material when I go to the bathroom.

The doc prescribed me Creon (thinking my pancreas must be at fault for not digesting properly), but it doesn't seem to be working.  Wondering if this is IBS related instead, and if anyone else experiences this?

Any feedback welcome.

Wow your doctors actually prescribed you something, thats more than I can say for mine who just sit around and do nothing, and don't really care at all.  Around 18 months ago I noticed lettuce would pass through me completely undigested, the same way it came in, it went out.  One by one foods would stop being digested.  I am on a total liquid diet since June, I figure I will take all the work out of the equation that my digestive tract would have to do.  I take digestive enzymes with every meal.  I have IBSD as well, though I hate calling it that because it stopped being IBS long ago, it is beyond IBS at this point.   I have lost so much weight I look like a human skeleton.  I can't say I have any answers myself.

I did have a roundworm infection which I treated, or at least I think it is gone.  No clue if it is or not.  They could explain a lot of my symptoms I had.   I am still not better.  I assume they ravaged my gut and disrupted my gut flora to the point of total digestive system failure.  I don't really know how to restart my gut.  I am getting pretty desperate and even consider FMT at this point.

Hi Noca,

Creon is digestive enzymes, so it looks like we're getting the same treatment.  Doc seems convinced it's my pancreas because the enzymes are allowing me to eat more frequently (even if a lot of it still passes through), but I'm not so sure.  Waiting on seeing the GI specialist, but God only knows how long that could take.  Until then, I guess I just learn to manage the pain as best I can - although I'm not sure how anyone is meant to 'manage' this.

I think that it's because IBS is an overactive or underactive (diarrhea vs constipation) colon. So your colon is overactive, the food you ingest will go through your colon more quickly than usual which will cause you to see undigested food in your stools. Well that's how my doctor explained it to me. I think it's due to lack of good bacteria.

I have something else to add.
Noca: Have you counted calories? If you're on a liquid diet, odds are that you not getting enough calories. I also don't think it's healthy to only have a liquid diet for months. Your body will get used to it and have trouble digesting food in the long run if you do that. And most veggies have undigestible fiber which don't get digested...even by the healthiest of people. I have undigested food in my stools too. Do you have any vitamin deficiencies? If you don't then you probably don't have that big of a problem digesting food.

Literally I have the same symptoms and I'm t the same point. I did not have any worm identified, but suffered from two stomach flus in one year. Probiotics help me 50%. But fmt seems like a real and potentially effective option with lasting results. Have you gone through with it yet?
