Hello All!

I searched my symptoms online and arrived at this website searching for some answers.

I hope to contribute by relating my experience and learning from others who are suffering from IBS.

Right now I would greatly appreciate some feedback and help from the "veterans" who are experts and suffer from this condition daily. Here is my experience:

The strange feeling in my abdomen started one day after a big family gathering. I had lamb dumplings and non alcoholic beer. I indulged as usual and didn't think anything of it. The next day I woke up with a strange bloated feeling in my stomach and a slight discomfort on the left bottom hand side of my abdomen. I thought I had just eaten too much so went on with the day. I had breakfast as usual but something didn't "feel" quite right with my stomach. I just thought it was indigestion from a large meal the day before. A few hours after breakfast I tried to relieve my bowl and noticed that I was suffering from severe constipation. I felt a very small amount pass through but didn't quite feel like I emptied my bowl.

After about a week of going through the same motion I visited the Doctor. My mother had colon cancer and so did her father. I also searched my symptoms online with the keywords: bloated, constipation, irregular bowl movement, not feeling a full release, pain in the left side of abdomen and the two possibilities were COLON CANCER and IBS.

The Doctor ordered me to see a specialist and that won't be in two weeks. The specialist will organise a colonoscopy which will take a month or two.

I feel paranoid right now because I am only 29 years old, married and about to start a family. The absolute last thing I want is to have colon cancer!

Is there anyone out there with the same experience and share my symptoms? Did you have a colonoscopy done and find out it was IBS? Any input will put my mind at ease. Thank you all for reading my post and providing some feedback!

Hi , i am answering your post as from my own experience I know how disappointing it is when you post because you are scared and noone answers. I myself have posted many times on here to no avail, I am not saying you wont get a response but I have had over a thousand views and no reply in the past. The reason is people who are not members can view but not post. I am sure you will get replies but in the meantime I will try and reassure you.

When in my late 40s I had your symptoms I panicked had a colonoscopy etc all clear ibs. My consultant a top, g.i.man said I was too young for colon cancer so at your tender years much more unlikely. I realise your mother and her father had colon cancer I bet they were a lot older than you. What you describe is typical ibs symptoms you are also at the right age for it to start. You are not paassing blood, I bet your appetite is fine and your weight. I have also read recently that pain is not that common with colon cancer. Kathleen one of the moderators on here who I dont think is active on here now would be able to explain it all so much better than I but believe me what you describe is so much more likely to be ibs especially as over indulging triggered it. I have been there done that.

Have your colonoscopy which will be normal then enjoy your life start that family. Dont do what I did and am still doing at 64 wasting wonderful days of life worrying about an illness I dont have. If you knew the tests scans etc I have had over the years and the money spent. Health anxiety is awful. Easy to say dont worry especially as I am worrying about right low abdo pain right now.
Take care
Maria

Hi Azli!

No, Colon Cancer and IBS are certainly not the only possibilities. And base on your story they are not even so probable:

IBS: you can't diagnosed it within a week.

CC: too young.

Don't panic based on internet searches, cos they tend to point to the common ailments, but are far from exhaustive. So, what you have to do is:, unless you really feel bad, you just calm down and wait to your cite with  the specialist.

Greetings!

organic beets are great for colon health.  Need to eat more root foods at the night meal.  Please consider kidney health as well because the kidney and large bowel are electrical shunts.  Drink spring water.  Acidify yourself by eating sunflower seeds and some high quality raw honey at lunch.  This will help the kidney and you will feel much better for it.

Don't stop breathing.  You are a WINNER. You ever heard the term guru?  It means sometimes in life we have to be our own spiritual healer and doctor.  Most Doctors are in their line of work just to pay back their student loans.  GURU: gee you are you.
