I am 22 years old male from India. I am an engineer and do bodybuilding as well. This year I got sore throat, so doc prescribed me Augmentin (Amoxicillin) for 5 days. I got well after 5 days. On the 9th day, I developed diarrhea along with abdominal pain. I went to doc again, he prescribed me Ornidazole for 5 days. From the second day of treatment, my BM were normal again and no abdominal pain. But after a week stopping it, My symptoms re occurred. This time I decided to go to a specialist, the best in my city and told him all about antibiotics and my treatment. He prescribed me Immodium,VSL 3, Anti Stress medicines which did nothing. Then on my second appointment, he prescribed me Rifaximin 550mg x 1 /day. It did not made any improvement. It made my diarrhea from type 5 to type 7. But he told me to continue taking it for 2 weeks. So I did. But no improvement after 2 weeks. My weight dropped from 230 lbs to 212 lbs because I am not able to eat as much as I did before. Things I have tried on my end
1. Removed dairy(did nothing)
2. Tried Ghee -3 times per day(very effective - 90 % improvement but it made me break out so i reduced to once daily but my symptoms re-occurred).
3. Tried Psyllium Husk(Very effective - Almost no symptoms - But if I don't take it,my diarrhea comes again).
Can you guys help me out, What might be the cause of my diarrhea?? If it is SIBO, why taking ghee and psyllium husk makes my symptoms go away??

Did u have a bout of severe gastroenteritis before the onset of IBS Symptoms.
Psyllium Husk is good for GI Tract, if its helping you then keep taking it. But make sure you take it with adequate amount of fluids like water, curd etc.
Ask your doctor to conduct breath test to ensure if you are suffering from SIBO.

No, But I suffered from bacterial scalp infection and was prescribed Augmentin. Same thing happened , after stopping augmentin I got diarrhea and fever too. So doc did my CBC test and found my WBC was elevated, so he prescribed cefixime. Diarrhea and fever went away and diarrhea didn't come back until I was prescribed Augmentin again.
Both these incidents are 2 months apart. I told my doc about it and he said he prescribed rifaximin instead of cefixime because it is safer.

I will ask him in my next appointment.
