Hi! I am a 16 y/o girl looking to see if my recent symptoms could point to endo or IBS. I've been having lower abdominal and pelvic pain/cramps on and off for the last 2 months, since school ended. These pains seem to get worse near ovulation and during my period, but they are present most mornings and go away for the most part after I eat breakfast before returning later in the day, generally after meals. I also tend to have very mild constipation throughout my cycle that turns into diarrhea on my first day of bleeding. Also, the first bleeding I experience each cycle is dark brown and very thick, which I've heard could point to endo? The menstrual cramps are not debilitating for me, unlike many people who have endometriosis, but they are present and can be bothersome. The cramps also go into my back and cause back pain, which can be accompanied by nausea. My flow is not super heavy but there are occasionally clots and my cycle is short (less than 24 days usually). However, my period is usually fairly regular and doesn't last more than 6 days. I have also noticed pain upon defecating or urinating occasionally but it doesn't always match up to my period? I went to my GP twice, he ran blood work for sedimentation and a CBC which all came back fine along with stool tests, urine tests, and felt along my pelvis for lumps which all came back normal as well. I also think it could be IBS as it started during a time of great stress (finals week) and I have struggled with diarrhea and gas pains in the past, notably during migraine attacks or times of anxiety. I've noticed bits of mucus on my stool as well as undigested food which is common in IBS but I was wondering if that could be a symptom of endometriosis as well. The daily stomach rumbling in my stomach and across the front of my pelvis also could point to IBS, as could the occasional heartburn and groin pain I get while jogging. I also suffer from anxiety, migraines, asthma, and rhinitis which are all known to often coexist with IBS. The low cramps are not usually made better by defecating but with diarrhea I get abdominal cramps and a burning, nauseous sensation in my stomach that does get better after using the toilet. lol I know this is a lot of info and some of it is kind of gross but I'm nervous about my health and want to know if anyone else suffers like I do. Thanks!

I am not a doctor but I can offer an opinion not a diagnosis: sounds to me like possibly a menstrual cycle that increases intestinal discomfort (which is common and exacerbated by IBS). It takes a while sometimes for the cycle to regulate. I know my hormones and intestines are very much connected. Also stress exacerbates symptoms. Maybe take some time for yourself, do something to achieve inner peace (read, run etc. -whatever floats your boat). Also try staying away from lactose and gluten as well as insoluble finer (bean etc.). Try and relax this summer.
