Hello all. I haven't read thoroughly so can just hope I'm in the right place... my 16 year old son has been suffering with IBS for about a year, pretty closely tied in with the death of his dad in February 2017 but our story doesn't end with that, because we had to move to the UK from Spain as a result (moving school, losing friends etc) and there are various unpleasant personal things involving the Will still going on.
So essentially (as the paediatric gastroenterology specialist put it) his body is reacting to the shitstorm that's been thrown at it.
He's largely not gone to school for the year, is now on the point of taking/not taking about half the GCSEs he is capable of, may/may not pass any/all of them and is in the grips of recurring insomnia as well as the IBS. On which: he will sometimes use the Colofac he was prescribed, but not always. He will sometimes eat healthily but not always. And he most definitely will NOT accept that the specialists do know at least some of what they're talking about re. eating regularly/normally, so he sometimes won't eat at all on the grounds that if he eats he ends up on the loo. He insists he knows best.
So - in a nutshell - that's were I'm at. Tearing my hair out for all kinds of reasons, not least of which is the IBS and how to get him to take care of his poor body.
I imagine I'm not the only one dealing with teen hormones. I look forward to reading your stories and learning.
