Hi!

I have just begun my journey into trying to heal my gut issues. I am sadly coming to understand that getting a proper diagnosis from a doctor other than 'you have IBS', is really hard. They don't seem to really know, and the wait for a specialist is nearly a year. So this is to try and get a bit of insight into what form of IBS, or other problem, it could be. I feel this will help with the direction I go in to try and  treat my issue.

My problems in the past have included cramps, constipation, pain, acne. I have managed to reduce some of these symptoms (I was on a very high protein diet, drinking a lot of whey shakes..and energy drinks.. cut those out and the majority of these symptoms went)

But now my only real issue is absolutely chronic bloating. Sometimes silent, very bad smelling gas (sorry..)

My stomach is VERY distended, I have no fat on my tummy but it is constantly bloated. This never ever reduces, I have not seen myself with a flat stomach since a teenager. I am now 30.

My history: alcoholism, drug addiction, anorexia. All now recovered, but mentioning this as I have read these things contribute to gut problems.

Does anyone else have mainly these two as symptoms???

What have you been diagnosed with??

I have a feeling it might be SIBO??

so sorry for your problems.

yes, your chronic bloating could very well be due to SIBO.  ask your doc to get tested for it.

good luck with everything.

these are just my own thoughts. for expert medical advice please contact a health care professional.

I imagine your past problems probably abused your system but I would think time would heal.   I would try to see a proper gastro enterologist.   I didn't get any relief until I did.   I suffer with IBS-D but with medication I cope.   I too still have too much gas and unfortunately have never found anything that helps.  I think part of my problem is when I get anxious I swallow too much air.   Things like chewing gum or smoking can make the gas worse too.

My wife has been diagnosed with IBS due to not have anything else to call it. She has had every test available with no results. This started 4 months ago after taking two different antibiotics. Doctors say it killed off her good bacteria in her gut. We have been to the E.R. 4 different times a Gastroenteroligist twice her family doctor 3 times and now we are going to believe it or not a Chiropractor who seems to be doing the most good using supplements. The biggest issue is gas and bloating. Her stomach is distended and has so much pain she can't sleep and all she can take is Tylenol.

Emmarose89, we have used warm towels over her abdomen and a little Maalox and exercises such as squats or yoga poses such as child's pose, cat pose or even walking to get the gas moving. This may help you. It is certainly a struggle.

SIBO is easily tested for.  Get tested and you can at least rule out one option!
