Need suggestions for decreasing transit time
Posted 14 September 2020 - 05:18 PM
Have restored most of lost functionality since powerful antibiotic wiped out my gut flora 6 weeks ago.
Now taking daily scoop of Miralax aided by daily large mug of split pea soup and serving of cooked beans with every dinner. High quality yogurt and a probiotic for breakfast every morning.
This almost gets the job done; but not quite. Transit time is slow and that makes for having to push to get the bowel movement out. Would like to find some natural foods or beverage that can help with motility and peristalsis. Would prefer to avoid medications or supplements.
Stool is firm but not hard due to aforementioned enhancements. I wouldn't mind if it were a bit looser. I have one every day; sometimes two.
All suggestions appreciated.

Hi Rob -
Try two or three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar diluted with about a half a cup with water. It won't taste good but it should do the trick.
Good luck & keep us posted!

Do you really think the acv helps consistently, flossy? I am thinking about reintroducing it into my regimen as my motility has slowed down dramatically. Acv tastes awful though. 😂
Hi Nuffa2 -
Yes I do think it helps consistently. And yes it tastes really bad, even diluted in water.

Try a dried fig soaked overnight. You can take it with breakfast or between meals morning time. With it you need to add lot of water in your diet as well because roughage soaks water from body, making you constipated (which is opposite of what we are trying to achieve) if enough water is not consumed. I take half a fig everyday as one whole fig was not suiting me and was in fact making things worse. Just see for yourself what suits you. Give at least 5 days to conclude anything. Initially it might be a mix of good and bad affects on BM. I did not have BM for two days when I started but I was feeling light in my stomach. So I continued and by 4th day, it was a good ideal and formed clearance without any straining or hard stool. Then slowly I started to observe the effects and eventually stuck with half a fig a day. I have read that the fruit is also very good for intestines overall and will help in rebuilding all the lost functional power over a period of time. SIDE EFFCT CAUTION - Some gas is expected in gut due to lot of fibre in the fruit, but if its manageable without causing any pain, then the gut starts to adapt in couple of months and this goes away.
STOP OTHER MEDICINES TO KNOW IF ITS ACTUALLY SUITING YOU.
