  1. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
I'm Effexxorx, and as you can see from my tags, I suffer various mental illnesses. I've had IBS-C for about eight years now, but used to live a so-called regular life, though I don't know what that means any longer. I did have an eating disorder brought about by GIs getting sick of me and...
  2. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
I'm wondering if anyone else with SIBO experiences mood swings and/or brain fog and how they manifest? Here's what I experience: When constipated, I become irritable and sometimes extremely angry. I also often am not hungry for meals, feel fatigued and sleep a lot. When not constipated (taking...
  3. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
I started taking two Colace's a day (200 mg total), one before breakfast, and one at 11 am, and I feel like a new person. However, my doctor says that he doesn't think colace does much of anything, which I thought was odd given my success. Has anyone had success with Colace?

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism 13 years ago; no i have a generally half-stable thyroid, but treatment carried on into chronic...

  9. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
Right now I take them once a week/when the constipation gets really bad. And have been for the past 10 weeks. Is that enough to become dependent on them? If so then how often can you take them without becoming dependent on them? They say to only take them occasionally but how often is...
  10. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
My constipation issues started a couple of years ago when, for some odd reason, I suddenly couldn't *go* to the toilet at all. Up until this point I had been fairly regular, albeit with the odd bout of constipation here or there. When I got totally bunged up, I wasn't able to *go* to the toilet...
  11. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
I have IBS-c and have been 'managing' this to various degrees by following a (mostly) low FODMAP diet and with laxatives (senna - the stimulant type). My Dr prescribed senna to me and told me it was 'safe' as long as I keep the dose low and try and take them sparingly. Over the past couple of...

  13. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
What will happen exactly? And how long will it take for the side effects of this to kick in? I'm taking laxatives because my bowel movements are strange (sometimes normal, then suddenly constipated, etc...). Will laxatives work normally as long as there is stool in your colon? And for how long...
  14. General Discussion
Regular laxatives do nothing but draw water into the colon, and weakens the muscles of the colon like habitually using enemas. Soluble fiber (so-called laxative too) paradoxically can be used for diarrhea or constipation-REGULATING. "All soluble only fiber" methylcellulose in Citrucel or generic...
  15. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
Hey everyone I usually comment on other peoples posts within the community but never write my own so this is new for me! I just want to share my views and opinions on laxatives. I don't want you to think I selling anything, this is purely a post to help you and all of us in the "constipation"...
  16. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
Hi everyone, I feel quite embarrassed to post this but I want to know if anyone out there has experience with a low libido while suffering with IBS and chronic constipation. I feel like it can't be just me. I know most of us think its the last activity you want to be doing while bloated and in...
  17. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
Hello! So a little about me constipation issues started in January of this year out of nowhere (a week without a bowel movement then I would use a laxative and/or enema) doctor suggested I go gluten free for a month to see if it helped I tried to eat gluten after that month and although I have...

Hi everyone So I'm relatively new to the IBS community. I'm a 27 year old female with IBS-C, my symptoms started about 6 months ago and have been getting progressively worse. I mainly experience constipation in the form of incomplete evacuation (and recently I've been experiencing hard stools...
  19. Over-the-Counter (OTC) Treatments
I've found that most OTC fiber supplements don't do much for me. Stimulant laxatives like senna cause terrible cramping and pain. And I already eat plenty of fiber. I feel like I'm nearing the end of my options! Any suggestions for constipation remedies that work?
  20. IBS Constipation (IBS-C) and Chronic Constipation
I know this topic has been covered but I haven't found a solution to my problem! I'm almost 26 y.o. with ulcerative colitis for about eight years and IBS that's really ramped up in recent years. Until my first UC flare, my bowel was usually sluggish - I remember having to use laxatives as a...
