To clarify my previous note, I have classic IBS symptoms, usually in fairly mild form, but quite often also sudden. They can be located in any random location of my abdomen.twinges that last only 1 second or less. They can be moderately painful, but seem too brief to be a muscle spasm; more like a nerve firing off. Has anyone any experience of this (rather than longer-lasting painful spasms lasting many seconds or for minutes)?

Back when IBS was bad I tended to have overall tenderness punctuated with brief, sharp, incredibly, double me over gasping, pains. The quality of pain doesn't seem to be diagnostic where you can say X, Y, Z pains are 100% NOT IBS.Some things are less common in IBS, like pain that wakes you up from a deep sleep, than in other things, but pretty much every conceivable description of pain I can imagine I have seen one IBSer or another have (location, quality of the sensation, duration of the pain, etc).K.
