I just wanted to check in with a brief progress report. I went to a therapist who taught me RSA Breathing (Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia). Developed in Russia in the 1990's for treating asthma, this technique is also supposed to help relieve symptoms of IBS. I've been doing it for 3 weeks now, and can say that it seems to be helping some. The therapist told me the effect was cumulative, over time, and I'm finding this to be the case. It's not a cure-all, but it does, when practiced regularly, help to reduce symptoms. I've definitely had less bloating, gas, and "D" since doing this exercise. I'm also monitoring finger temperature as an indicator of stress level, and it's been interesting. Driving is about the most stressful thing I do. This seems to be a worthwhile method of treatment, and it is often at least partially covered by insurance.
