Talk about a misdiagnosis: has published a report that a woman who sought treatment for a variety of symptoms was diagnosed as suffering from gout and a severe case of IBS, but was actually pregnant. Her pregnancy was finally identified with only hours to spare before delivery. Luckily, the 8 pound, 14 ounce baby girl was born healthy.

This story is reminiscent of the one last December in which a woman diagnosed with IBS actually had a 17 pound cyst (Major IBS Misdiagnosis). Not to get all political on you, but since both incidents occurred in Great Britain, one would have to wonder about what is going on with their health care system.

This current story also brings to mind the issue of personal responsibility for one's own health care. The woman is quoted as saying she felt like "like something was moving inside me", but it didn't occur to her that she might be pregnant. Didn't she notice a lack of a menstrual period? One can only hope that she will be a little more attentive to her baby's care then she was to her own. I wish the whole family luck!
