Hi, I am after some advice and general understanding from anyone who has gone through similar. I am new to the forum having trawled the internet for help while undergoing continued tests from a nhs gynaecologist. I was first diagnosed with IBS around 2-3 yrs ago after finding that I suddenly needed to keep going to the toilet even if Indidn't pass anything. Before this I would go once a day only in the morning. Now I found I needed to go 5-6 times but rarely passed anything after midday. To cut a long story short the situation got worse around 7 months ago when My weight loss started to increase suddenly and my straining getting to the point where I was red in the face and needing a lie down from exhaustion s afterwards. I am a 42 yr old male and before IBS I was already slim at 10.5 stone but am now 8.7 stone and still losing weight. I have developed a flat toned stomach that is rock hard from the straining (at least there's some benefit!). However I have also got a rectal prolapse which I have now had for 7 mths and is getting worse. It is so painful and more of the colon is coming out as it continues without being corrected. I am borderline amnemic with folate score of 4.9 at last test and so am constantly exhausted. The gynaecologist has no idea what is causing it and is baffled as to how Inhave developed a prolapse (rare in men, rarer still in young men apparently) and I have had two conolocsopy's and a CT scan but nothing is coming up as an issue. I am waiting on a Procotmoy appointment. The problem I am having trouble understanding is my symptoms which seem inconsistent:
I am on the toilet for an hour in the morning and can't stop. And yet I have to strain hard to get it out. If I then stand up or lie down I need to go again. It means I go to the toilet for an hour, have a shower, rush to the toilet again, get dressed, have breakfast, and rush to the toilet again. Get to work, go to the toilet but now little comes out. Every two hours I need to go through the day but only mucus and blood comes out. Because of the prolapse sometimes my hand is covered in blood and I have blood in my stools and on the tissue every time. Cancer, celiac, crones have all been ruled out. I can't work out if I am constipated or have diarrahia as I have both?! I also have never had bloating which seems to be a common IBS sympton. I am so confused have tried so much. I am in so much pain and can't focus on anything during the day and feel exhausted.
I would really like to know if anyone has similar bowel habits and any advice as to whether this is classed as constipation or Diaharia or both. My stools differ, sometimes pellets ( especially if I have gluten free food), solid, semi solid, to semi runny. I have to strain to make it come out really hard whichever and yet it doesn't stop coming in the morning and if I didn't I would be on the toilet even more so feel I have to get it all out. I have to crouch off them toilet and stick tissue up my colon to get it out.
I know this sounds like a lot of info and not very nice but I am just so depressed about the situation and frustrated at how long it is taken to get any answers I though someone might have gone through similar or offer advice. The gynaecologist won't operate until he knows what has caused the prolapse but everyday is a harder struggle to get through and I am worried about the longer term impacts of my colon coming out more and more. It will pop out as soon as I strain a little now as well.
