Just thought I would let you all know. I went on this diet to loose weight, but it also helped me with IBS. I have had IBS for about 9 years. I have been ob the diet for a month, with no problems! My blooting and gas went away too! I am not sure if I have a wheat allergy or it is just the way I am eating, but I don't care....I AM REGULAR!!!!!

Thanks for posting. The more I hear about people being helped with the Atkins diet, the more I want to try it. However, I happen to be underweight and am afraid I would lose more weight. Redfern
Atkins diet would do wonders for people with IBS-D, If you have IBS-C this diet could put you in the hospitial. If you have IBS-C don't even think about it!

Mgordon,Congratulations on your success. My daughter has been on the ATkins Diet for 1 1/2 years now and has gotten her quality of life back. Her IBS led to FM/Myofascial Pain Syndrome, MVP, Endometrosis, the list goes on. Some of these things she is now stuck with but her FM/Myofascial Pain Syndrome plus IBS are virtually gone, all because of a change in diet. Pretty amazing when you think that there wasn't any doctor to advise us on it and if it hadn't been for the fact I had read the Atkins' Diet book and followed his advice, my daughter would still be laying on her bed in my house in very bad shape. The Dude,My daughter had severe, I mean really severe constiptation, the kind that makes you curl up on the bathroom floor in pain and put you in the hospital, several times in fact. The Atkins' Diet saved her life, she does however take Magnesium, she regulates how much of that she takes by her stools. If she has diarrhea, she may even stop it for a day, then she'll start again with 400 mg. a day, then she may up it to 1000 mg. always depending on bowel tolerance. She feels she is now in control of her IBS and has gone back to a full normal life.RedfernAs far as losing weight, my daughter weighs around 100-106 during a year so she can't afford to lose weight. She believed that getting rid of the IBS overrode her worries about losing more weight. Since she now has her IBS under control, she doesn't follow the diet to the letter anymore so she really isn't losing any more weight. She lost 6 lbs. the first week but has since regained it. Goodluck to you all,Casey

Wow, I did not know others knew about this. I was so afraid to try the diet thinking that the rich foods is what gave me "D"....who knew! I do know that he sells a pill that is supposed to help you with "C". It is part of his starter program. For those of you who have the "D" problem you might want to check out his site. Of course the address is WWW.Atkins.com
Is there another web address I could try? I tried www.atkins.com and got an art gallery. Any suggestions??Kim

Mgordon, I have been on the Atkins Diet for almost a week. I can't remember when I have felt so good!!! I also looked up the Atkins diet on the net but didn't get as much information as I wanted. I went out and bought the book. I have been referring to it reverently. A big THANKYOU goes out to 356conv for giving me the Atkins tip. I never thought I could eat bacon, broccoli, and lots of cheese. This morning, day 6 on this diet, is the first morning that I didn't have terrible cramps or that rushing to the bathroom. I even cheated a little. I can't afford to lose any weight either, but I feel better AND I'm not hungry and tired all the time. It's working for me so far.

YAHOO!!!!!!!I am glad it is working! I have been on for about 5-6 weeks now and it gets only better!

Hi I'm on my second week of the Atkins diet and feel 95% better too. Finding it a little hard to keep to, I just ate some bread and now my belly is gumbling serves me right. Wind has gone thank God that was my biggest problem. Bread is the only thing I miss, but as long as I'm good for the rest of the day I should be OK. It must of been a bacteria problem with me thank God I've found something that works, I've been to the doctor so many times and even I was beginging to think it was all in my head.

Hi Bananas,I'm been on low-carb eating plan for almost a year and it's been wonderful for me. I too occassionally want a piece of bread and find that Wonder Lite Wheat only has 9 carbs per slice - not bad. Also, I eat pancakes for breakfast using Atkins baking mix and low calorie syrup. There are some extremely low carb breads you can buy on the web (look around) but they tend to be VERY expensive. I found on loaf that was $14.00! I'll go without. Hope this helps.Carlene
