Hi everyone. I just found this website yesterday and registered today. I have not been diagnosed w/IBS yet, but after reading your posts, I'm sure that's what I'm suffering from. I have an appt. on May 4th with a gastro. I would like to go to this doctor w/ some information about what all this IBS is doing to me and some possible remedies. If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know. It's nice to have someone to talk about this with, my husband won't. thanks, dmoss

Check out some of the calcium posts and ask you doctor about it. It has helped a lot of people who suffer for IBS Diarrhea. Take one tablet with each meal. Caltrate Plus 600 in the white and purple box seems to work the best.Linda
Hi! I'm new as well. You might want to try the BRAT diet for a few days. B(bananas), R(rice), A(applesause), and T(tea). Then start to add in food one at a time, starting with fruits and veggies (watch the beans and the high citric acid though). That way you can pinpoint what foods seem to give you trouble. To make sure you get the vitamens you need, etc, drink ensure (or similiar) and try metamucil (or similar). And as I've just learned, drink lots of water. There seems to be a whole range of symtoms (correct me if I am wrong here you guys). From chest pain and heart burn, to acid stomach, abdominal pain, rectal pain, constipation, and diarreahea. *Then* there are the problems that these symptoms cause such as: low energy, anxiety, weight loss, fear of it happening out in public, social problems... You get the idea...There are ways to help make you feel better. I hope all goes well!Andie

Hi there, and welcome!I go to my first gastro appt on 4/28, so perhaps we'll be going thru this diagnosis stage at the same time! I can't get my doctors to make up their mind whether my condition might be IBS or endometriosis; I have had so many different symptoms over the past few months. If you can, check out Dr. Salt's book (available at some libraries). It provides great details about this condition. I found it helpful in preparation for my doctor's visit. It certainly brought to mind many questions to ask during my consultation. Good luck to you!Tricia

dmoss - welcome and please feel free to discuss anything you need to - being new you haven't seen some of our more - ahem - delicate topics - I think pretty much in my time here, I've seen EVERYTHING discussed - so don't be shy with us, OK? (Since you don't have hubby to share with.)It is good that you are seeing a doctor soon - IBS is pretty much diagnosed by ruling out other illnesses (crohn's (I can never spell that one), diverticulitis or osis, ulcerative colitis, etc.), when they have ruled out all of the known illnesses, voila! IBS. You don't mention your age or symptoms, but having just been de-galled a week and a half ago (after suffering for MANY years), it could also be a gallbladder problem. Since you don't mention your symptoms, it would be hard to recommend remedies - but they seem to be different for different people anyway. You are doing the best thing by seeing your gastro. Please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing.Kathy

I'd say read some books first and look at some sites on it on the computer and decide whether you want to try some of the remeidies in the books and also tell your gastro sabout them.Try to pinpoint stressful situations that may have something to do with it then go to your doc loaded with info.that is the best way to go because some dont know much about ibs, and come back to the bb here and let others give you some info too-good luck and hope this helps-cadia
