Amitriptyline and Imipramine - The same effect?

I've been on Amtriptyline for years for IBS. I have found by far the most effective treatment for my IBS. In the past I have bought Amtriptyline from Inhouse Pharmacy as it much cheaper than a UK precription charge. But now Inhouse have stopped selling Amtriptyline. The only other Tricylic they sell is Imipramine (Tofranil). I wondered if this would do exactly the same job as Amitriptyline?Does anyone take Imipramine?Opinions please.

Generally it has the same effect, so it may work for you. However there is a lot of idiosyncratic responses to antidepressants in general and a lot of time one even in the same class will work better than another. They are similar enough that if the lower price is that important (and it can be for a lot of people) that it should be worth giving it a shot.K.
