Is there a difference between the fiber in wheat bran and the fiber in whole wheat flour? I always thought bran was the fiber component of whole wheat flour, but I just wanted to be sure. I've heard bran is mostly insoluble fiber, and I was wondering if the flour was as well.
Bran is mostly insoluble fiber. Foods generally are not 100% one or the other. The source of the fiber in whole wheat bread is from the bran so I suspect they would have very similar profiles.K.

From my experiences with fiber I find that Whole wheat N Bran cereal works the best for me. but I can only handly a small amount. I don't use dairy so sprinkle mine with extra virgin olive oil to help get it down and olive oil is suppose to be good for the colon too.
. It really keeps my bowels moving good. I sometimes add nuts and eat as a snack.
Not as good as the cookies I use to eat but it satisfies..

Thanks for the replies. I asked because I was looking for an alternative to cereals. All the bran cereals are hard and crunchy, and just a few bites make me feel full all day long. I don't feel like eating the rest of the day, and I can usually taste the bran all day. (Not only does it stick to my tongue and stomach, but it stays in my teeth all day even after brushing and flossing.) However, I do fine with 100% whole wheat breads and even bran muffins, at least with my upper GI system. I'm wondering though if the 100% whole wheat bread I'm eating almost daily could be contributing to worse bloating and intestinal gas.
