From being around boards of IBS for a few years.Response to antibiotics in people with IBS is unpredictable. Some people are much more sensitive to the GI side effects of these medications and that makes the IBS much worse during the antibiotics and some report for awhile afterwards. Some people's IBS gets better while on antibiotics.I do not know if any specific brand of probiotics is proven to be better than others (assuming it is a brand that actually has live bacteria in it).Culturelle (Lactobacillus GG) is one of the most studied, so it seems to be a reasonable choice, but many people like many other brands (VSL#3 Digestive Advantage-IBS, Primal Defense, Jarrodophilus...list not exhaustive). The probiotics may help whether your IBS gets better or worse (the why it may get better is some people appear to be sensitive to gas levels, even those that are very normal...and antibiotics may kill off gas producing bacteria, probiotic bacteria produce essentially no gas)K.
