Yes, I do! Had it for three years now. I get C then D and it can all happen in a short period of time. Never venture where I can't find a bathroom. My other symptoms include urgency (55% of time), trapped gas (60% of time), cramping (10% of time), bloating (50% of time), severe nausea (55% of time), GI noise, movement and vibration (95% of time)& flu like stomach ache(75% of the time). I don't take any prescription drugs but I do keep in some what under control with alternative therapies. I use ginger for the nausea, enteric coated peppermint oil caps for the gas, bloating and cramping and I use Relax caps from crystal star for the anxiety that developeed after the onset of my IBS. They also have a product called Bowel tone IBS which I use. it contains Ginger, peppermint oil and some other herbs. I also take flax seed oil for the C and it is also surposed to help with food allergies, I just started taking it so I don't know yet if it works. I developed IBS worse after I had my gall bladder removed for gallstones. I possibly think it's worse now due to all of the adhesions that were found at the time of my surgery due to the fact that I had severe attacks for over a year before they diagnosed me. I hope some of these suggestions help atleast a little. Good luck!!!!!

I did when I was in my 20s. I had C has a child and graduated to D & C in my 20s. Those where the worst cramps. I would be blocked and have D on the way. Major explosions!I only have D now - still hurts but not as prolonged (and no fissures).Sharon

I read somewhere that 70% of IBSers are alternating C and D. Seemed awfully high to me. On this board, seems like most are D type. I'm C type, myself.------------------***Gail

I am D and C. Was just badly D but Remeron and calcium and painkillers have made me C sometimes. Plus I think I cycle 'naturally' through C and D now anyway now the D is stabilised. I actually prefer the C but there you go.I do still take calcium sometimes and also Imodium when needed which then often puts me in a C phase. Hypnotherapy is good for D and C and alternating D/C.I am trying out Ibsacol at the moment which is also for both. ------------------susanIBS D/C type & M.E/CFS

Hi allI am hoping that I have made a major find whilst browsing the net today - I did a search on IBS and a website came up called www.overcomeibs.com This guy GUARANTEES his program will work - within just a few weeks sufferers should feel and marked improvement! I would have ordered the download of the program by now but I don't have credit card - bummer! I have emailed to find out if I can pay another way. NB It costs 20 ($29) so I'm gonna give it a go! Have a read, it's a very interesting approach and there are loads of testimonials on the site.Bye for now

I began as a youngster as a "stomach person" but did not yet have IBS that was incapacitating and life altering til I was in my 30's with a 3 year old son (c-sec made it worse). At that time I had IBS D (D for a year with a 30-40 lb weight loss). After a colonoscopy I was officially diagnosed with IBS and after making some lifestyle changes, knowing that I didn't have cancer or colitis and adding fiber to my diet my IBS changed and became more D AND C with my main problem going alot (but formed-sorry for graphics). I did ok for several years then alittle over 2 years ago I took biaxin for a sinus infection and my IBS D flared for what seemed like months (when I came to this BB). It seemed to take a long time to "get better" and now I seem to go from bouts of C to occasional D, sometimes in the same day. I think that percentagewise less people have alternating C and D than those who have just C or just D, in my opinion its easier to cope daily being C than D though both problems arent fun. I wish they would develop some meds for alternating people, I think the drug companies are on the right track and its only a matter of time. I have been doing Mikes tapes and though I cant say it is (for me) a cure, they do appear to help. ------------------Nancy

I originally suffered the C type, and I would still if it were not for the milk of magnesia I use on a daily basis and have used for 4 years. As a result, I have alternating D and C. Basically, if anything comes out, it's always liquid. Sometimes, it's very little liquid. That does not bother me as much as chronic C though, and neither one would bother me if it weren't for my chronic abdominal bloating and distention.

I am another one with both C & D. Used to be more C, now more D. Interestingly, like Nancycat, my IBS came back with a vengeance (I was in remission for a while) after taking Biaxin for a sinus infection. That was in February!! Never taking that stuff again. I take ginger for nausea, Immodium and Pepto Bismol for diarrhea, enzyme digestant after each meal (GNC), probiotica, and caltrate. Oh, and if I remember to, a multivitamin. This regimen seems to be helping me a little bit, but still have those bad days!! You are definitely not alone. Kathy

I, too, suffer from C&D. I'm have more C than D, but lately, my stomach has been more unsettled than usual. I experience gas along with occasional cramping, which I believed is to be caused by spasms. As a result, I take Levsin or Librax. They both help with the spasms (the Librax also helps a little with anxiety), but the feeling of incomplete evacuation constantly plagues me. Although I say I'm C, I still go at least once a day or once every 2 days, but what is eliminated is characteristic of C.Ashley

Count me in the C/D gang. I am predominately D but get C every couple of weeks. It's not bad C though, more of a constant discomfort than excruciating pain. About 4-6 times a year, though, I get the excruciating tearful "let-me-die-or-let-me-have-a-BM" C which is awful. It's usually triggered by traveling, which means I've spent some vacations in agony! I did keep a food and symptom journal for about 3 months and it did help a lot. I am able to keep it under control by watching my triggers, both food and stress related. When my D acts up, I take calcium and eat gentler foods. When I am traveling, I take FiberChoice and up my water intake. It's a lot of trial and error, trying to manage this beast.

Well, I don't know which one I am. I usually go 3 days with no bowel movements then it starts out normal and ends up with big time diareha and horrible cramping. So am I a C or D. The calcium made me so constipated I had to take an enema but I'm still takign it, just a lower dosage.

In most of the older medical lit. IBS was defined as having alternating constipation and diarrhea, recently they have added the constipation and diarrhea predominate categories as well.K.------------------I have no financial, academic, or any other stake in any commercial product mentioned by me.My story and what worked for me in greatly easing my IBS: http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/Forum17/HTML/000015.html
