As if IBS isn't crappy enough, I also have acid reflux. My dr doesnt want to give me medication for it becasue he said that the meds typically casue diarrhea, which is something I definately don't need more of. So he told me to just take zantac when I need to. My mother in law suggested Apple cider vingar. Has anyone else heard of this? Wouldn't that make it worse?Jenn

My doctor told me to quit smoking and to loose weight. I have lost some weight but haven't fully quit smoking yet. URGH, damn smokes.I take nexium. It is great.
I have it quite badly too. I was also told to quit smoking (blush) and I've also been put on Nexium. I tend towards D and haven't had a problem with it causing any more D and I've been on it for about 6 months now. Zantac is pretty good for an OTC drug though. Also avoiding acidic foods helps a lot and try and have your dinner at least 2 hours before you lie down in bed. Hope this helps

hi and welcome. I had acid refulx BAD for several years. I did prevacid (exspensinve-nexium little cheaper) But now I just take a pepcid AC almost everynight. I was also told to stop smoking. I did stop after 24 years, pack and half a day. Now I have not had one in 9 months. All the BS about smoking, I now find out isn't so true. I still have allot of things wrong that they siad, well if you'd quit smoking. I have gained 25 pounds which is even worse I think with acid reflux. I tell people why bother to quit? If I didn't work my butt off to quit and wasn't for my kids giving me heck, I would go back to it in a heart beat.Anyway stay away from Maylox and stuff that has magnesium in it. It does cause more D.Good luck

Hi Jenn...I was diagnosed with acid reflux along with IBS - wellll, they are still debating the IBS diagnosis, but I'm going with it ;-) Anyway, my doc originally thought I had an ulcer and put me on Aciphex to reduce the acid. Turns out that I don't have an ulcer, but do have acid reflux / GERD so I stayed on the meds.... I haven't had any problems with it - the pain and stomach issues have actually subsided since I've been on it... Don't know if it'll work for you, but it couldn't hurt to mention it to your doctor.Good luck....
