When I kept a food log about a year ago I noticed a similar problem, I couldn't seam to eat any protien: meat, eggs, nuts, beans. My aversion to the last two was based on the insoluble fiber, which is an iritant (now I can tolerate some with lot's of solable fiber). But I discovered that it was actually an aversion to the fats in protiens that really hurt me. Thus I get really bloated when I eat chips, crackers, and desserts too.Now I try to eat only low fat meats (skinless chicken & turkey, or fish) and egg whits only. Everything in moderation.

Kiryakitty is right--fat might be the culprit in your diet. When my symptoms first started, I also thought I couldn't eat protein and so lost a lot of weight and became very weak. Later, I found out I could tolerate egg white and boiled sole (it's very soft and non-irritating). If your stomach can handle some tougher stuff, you might also want to give skinless, boiled chicken breasts or water-packed tuna a try.

I eat a lot of boiled eggs... and chicken. Red meat and ham make me quite sick with nausea, bloating and cramps and that all too scary feeling of 'not emptying my stomach' like when I was obstructed.I do well on ocean perch, can't eat tuna since the old gallbladder came out. You might give boiling a try like Nerys K has done. How you cook your food does make a big difference.

Mainstream commercial poultry is full of junk, and that doesn't help. I always feel polluted after eating chicken at a restaurant... We IBS people are a sensitive lot. If you haven't been eating organic free-range poultry, try to find yourself some. (The Fairway market on LI would be one source.) Bake or broil it to minimize added fat as K & N suggest, and see how that goes. I'd skip the ham for now, because of the preservatives.

I wasn't able to tolerate proteins for 8 yrs after the beginning of my IBS. Coming from being a competitive bodybuilder, that was devastating news. I laid off it for 5 days per week, then ate alot for one meal on the other two days. That way I kept it in my system......yet that got so old and I never felt strong, energetic, I craved sugars (lack of protein causes cravings), lost muscle and had more trouble losing bodyfat. Now I can eat protein daily again, and it's all for taking at least 2 Metagest with every meal I eat any protein....and I mean any amount no matter how small. I can still only tolerate small amounts, maybe two servings per day of about 2 oz (which is tiny compared to what I used to eat), yet that is all my body will tolerate at this point. I am slowly increasing the amounts (ever so slowly!) as my body adjust to it again. My symptoms were feeling sick, bloated very badly, tons of water retention, headaches, indigestion, irritibility, very slowed digestion and intestinal pain.I may have IBS yet I am also a nutritionist, so if I can be of any help, feel free to write to me via a letter through IBS.Thanks and good luck !!

I do best on pollock (fish), chicken and turkey skinned cooked in water, poached makes it sound better! Beef is iffy. Ham doesn't do at all, nor bacon. I should try some of the pork that's supposed to be less fatty these days. Strack

It may also depend on what eale you had with them, how many times a day you eat, how many calories you take in in each meal and a host of other factors. When you keep a food diary it shoould also reflect mooods as well and how you feel when you eat.
