A lady my husband works with has IBS and she told my husband that she has been much improved since taking Noni. Apparently that is short for a much longer name but she said if you just ask for Noni at the health food store they will know what it is. I would just like to do a little research on this and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this. Thanks.....Granny

Hi Granny -Could you find out it the person who it helped had D or C or both - and how bad .I.e, what did it help ? Something that may be good for C (ie, loosen stool) may be bad for us D types. It is a fruit juice - just called Noni. Some companies may be encapsulating it now. Please let me know what you find out regarding what it was helping - AND did the person cahnge ANYTHING else at the same time which could have accounted, at least in part, for the help. Thanks, Svargo

Someone emailed me after I posted on a Vet BB about my sick dog...they sold Noni and recommended it for Congestive Heart Failure in my elderly dog. I did not try it as it was a multi-level marketing thing and sounded hokey to me.

Svargo:As far as I know the lady that suggested Noni was IBS-D. She also takes Metamucil. I was of the understanding that this Noni is also available in capsule form. I called a few health food stores and they told me that it is relatively new and some don't even have any brochures on it. I like to research these things first before I take anything. If I do find out more, I will be sure to post.Granny

Granny-Thanks for your response - I hope she was a D and has been helped TONS. I wonder if she started the Metamucil at the same time and obtained the benefit from that ?Several years ago I did some research into Noni juice - there was some research - not as much as I would have liked. It seems that it has some similar benefit and action as bromelain (pineapple enzyme) - I think it has an antiinflammatory effect. Anyway, that was the main jist I remember at this point.Yes, do keep us informed - especially about the person who feels she benefited. Thanks Svargo

I believe Noni is the name for the fruit Morinda Citrifolia, grown in India. It is sold as an herbal supplement in capsules or in juice form. It's supposed to be good for digestive problems and arthritis.

My IBS is very severe and is mostly active in the morning and is linked with C.Because I have seen Noni do wonders with other people I tried it myself to see if it would help my IBS. Because I am plagued with many food intolerances (fruit juice being one of them) I could not take noni long enough to really test it. It started to do some good but major heartburn and anxiety took over as a result of my intolerance. It seems to me that if your system could tolerate fruit juice, noni could possibly help. Others in my family have been helped by noni in the areas of arthritis, flu, skin infection etc.If you decide to try it I hope it works for you and if does please let us know.Joanne
