I was diagnosed with IBS after food poisoning in September of last year... I have had every test done... sigmoidoscopy, barium enema, upper and lower GI follow thrus, colonoscopy with biopsies to test for Chrohn's... I guess why I am so frustrated is that I was doing okay until the middle ear virus... I took no antibiotics because it was a virus... I lost about 15 pounds at the beginning and was unable to eat as well... now it seem's like I am back to the start and I feel like I have no life... I go to work.. feeling crappy in the am but I go anyways... feel better and have a bagel for breakfast... whammoo feel lousy for a while... then feel better have lunch and feel lousy.... go home and eat supper and then it really lets loose... I usually sit on the toilet for at least 2 or 3 hours sometimes D sometimes not... I have alot of pain and the only thing that helps is rocking on the toilet and deep breathing and taking buscopan... I have been eating my safe foods and still pain but not as bad as if I ate the wrong foods.... help!!!

Sandwomin Middle ear things are a ######! They're miserable. Has you doctor given you anything for dizziness? This may improve things. I have had this and it does go away in its own sweet time. Try to rest and relax!!

I was thinking about the same thing as Hope--something for the dizziness/nausea. You might also ask your doctor about Lomotil. It slows the bowel fuction down. Don't forget to replenish your electrolytes. I always keep Gatorade on hand to drink after a seige of "D".Good luck!Debbie

Thanks for all of your replies... I have no more symptoms of the ear virus except the stomach problems... I only eat bagels for breakfast, some fruit, maybe a sandwich for lunch and some salad, and a tiny bit of meat and rice for supper...I cut back totally on eating fatty foods.. last night I was in agony after eating a cup of rice with peas and ham... I have never had problems with these three before... maybe I have to accept that this is a new ballgame and go back to eating crackers and gingerale and if I lose more weight oh well... I have some good news they are conducting a study for IBS at the hospital that I work and I already phoned them so hopefully I can get in on the study... Thanks again...------------------sandwomin
