I've been on bentyl since I was 6. It has worked wonders for me! But yes I do get the very painful stomach cramps like you was talking about when u have a bowel movement. It's inconvenient. But the pill works great!! I love it. It does make me drowsy so I usually only take it at night if I have to. But I've been on it so long that I only take it as needed now.
