I've been on this twice...many years ago, and just recently family doc said to try it again. She said OK to take it with my anti-anxiety drug(even though PDR says be careful) and good old immodium. Also because I had a really bad spell..she wanted me on it 4 times a day (20mg) no matter what. And she said to try it for one month, then let her know.It made me feel wierd,(a mixture of hyper and disoriented) and I had 2 more bad D spells during the week I was taking it. (She couldn't find a record of why I stopped taking it before...maybe specialist never gave her notes)And frankly I couldn't remember either...I've tried so many things!I gave it 8 days, then stopped taking it. Guess I will be going back to the GI doc soon. Anybody else have experience with this drug? Thanks

I took it years ago, and barely remember why I stopped taking it. I think mostly because it didn't help much. But what you say about "feeling weird" rings abell.I'm doing well with calcium and DA-IBS now.Marty

Marty-Thanks for reply....like me, you couldn't really remember why you stopped taking the Bentyl in the past...ha.Well, I know this time why I stopped!Yeah, all the "first line of defense" drugs doctors are sure will cure IBS have not worked for me...the Bentyl, the Librax I think it's called, I even tried Lotronex at one time. Also have prescription for lomotil...doesn't seem to do much either...but at least no side effects from that.Am curious abour Questran-but I've tried 2 other fiber "routes" with no success. Also wonder about Xanax in place of my milder Tranexe (anti anxiety)anyhow....what is DA-IBS? Curious. Thanks(I have been taking calcium with minerals for 5 years now...I really don't know if it helps or not...I take one 600mg with every meal)Jeanne

I've been taking Bentyl for quite a while. It does seem to help with the spasms - guess we are all different. Lomotil always works for me! Can't say I've got any side effects from the Bentyl. Lomotil can make me feel a bit weird though....

Bentyl made me ill. Fever, chills and vomitting on top of still having pain and heavy diarrhea. I shudder just thinking about how that stuff made me feel. *ICK* I have learned I am just one of those folks who is better off without prescription remedies, they all seem to hurt me, well, all but Vicodin 750 ES but good luck getting a doc to keep you on that for too long. LOL

I hear ya Jeanne, that is why I think so many people get so frustrated with doctors, me being one of them. Doctors seem to do the tests and meds in a almost sickening repetative fashion for everyone, and everyone is so different.Hey, I still have some Bentyl if you wanna trade for some Vicodin!
LMAO j/k
