Hi Fiona, I was looking for a support group for people with bile reflux and found your post. I was diagnosed in June with bile reflux disease.I went to the ER on June 23 with severe pain in my upper back, nausea, and vomiting. I thought it was pancreatitis again. It took 8 days, 1 CAT scan, 2 upper GIs, 1 x-ray, and finally an endoscopy to determine it was bile reflex. I think I was lucky since a lot of people seem to go months and years before a doctor can figure out what the problem is. I got the feeling from my own doctor that she doubted that I was ill; I'm just glad that I insisted that I was really sick and needed to see the GI specialist. For the moment I'm just taking Carafate. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to take it since you must take it 1 hour before eating and I tend to eat whenever I feel like it.I've had 2 more episodes since June but 1 lasted only a few hours and the other just 1 day. I have found that the pain radiates to my left shoulder/upper arm and it can be very severe. Lidocaine patches help with that pain but I don't know what to do about the stomach/back pain. Aspirin is forbidden and I've been told not to take any more Tylenol products because I have liver damage. I have been taking Vicodin for my back for years but can't keep it down when the bile reflux acts up. Morphine stays down because the pills are so tiny and I'm cutting them in half to just get 5 mg. However, I'm terrified of addiction. Where are you now with your treatment? Is your doctor any more hopeful than mine? I see her next week and hope she has more answers for me.Cat
